Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 11 Apr 05 - 05:44 AM Went up to Whitby at the weekend and found that both Stoupes Cross are not accepting tents or touring caravans at the moment, this may be due to illness, although the site was very wet. How long this will continue I could not ascertain but it may be useful to check with them prior to going to Whitby as this may still be the case at Moor & Coast and possibly even Folk Week. Furthermore the next site down (used to be called Haven) were not accepting tents, reason unknown. Cheers Raggy |

Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: GUEST,Jim Date: 19 Apr 05 - 09:56 AM "Sorry I wont be there this year, i'm not impressed with the line up this year! (nor are the rest of the crowd we come with). Les" Sad really - I'd have said it was worth it for Flossie and Anthony John Clarke alone - and I don't know any of the others. |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: GUEST,Monty Date: 19 Apr 05 - 10:50 AM May be Les is also one of those pessimists putting Sidmouth down on various other threads? You mean you've seen all the cast that's on this time Les? Don't care for ALL of em? Isn't a festival what one makes of it? If you have a 'rest of the crowd' that goes with you usually then surely you're quids-in already? Go on, go. Have a larf. |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: LesB Date: 19 Apr 05 - 11:42 AM Monty, I have no string opinions about Sidmouth. I have never been, nor are that bothered. It's a long way for me and I can't have another weeks hol a couple of weeks before Whitby. I have seen most of the Artists (if only 'The Cast' were on), and I quite like a few of them, but £40 each (inc camping) for 2 of us we feel is a bit much to go and see a couple of artists. None of our friends are going this year either. I have been for the last few years, (either dancing or as a punter), maybe next year. Cheers Les |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 19 Apr 05 - 12:06 PM I understand what you are saying Les but unlike most festivals when you go to any at Whitby you also get free gratis and for nothing a weekend at the seaside with candyfloss, fish and chips, walks on the sands, paddling in the sea, walks up the abbey stairs (not steps, that is not the correct name for them)access to the North Yorks Moors got to be worth it just for that and if you get some music you enjot na dgood company so much the better Glenn ........ you owe me a pint ! |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: Cavia_P Date: 19 Apr 05 - 01:26 PM We've updated the Festival programme on the web site: The Saturday Ceilidh is Free !

Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: LesB Date: 19 Apr 05 - 01:40 PM Raggytash, I agree about Whitby, I love it. But you can't camp on the Community College site, without buying a weekend ticket, which I would normally do. I intended doing all the seasidy things last year at Whitby Week, but with cars not being allowed off of the campsite, I didn,t get to do the North Yorks Moors thing. I missed Beck Hole. Mind I did get to Whitby 3 times last year, Moor & Coast, Sword Spectacular & Whitby Week. Cheers Les |

Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: breezy Date: 23 Apr 05 - 05:25 PM Dan Mckinnon's new Cds will be almost sold out and it is truly a class collection of his and others songs. My favs are 'Many miles to go' which did appear on deleted 'Wind and Water'. 'Every Man's heart 'is written by Archie Fisher, 'Aesop's Fables' and 'Same Pillow' All the others are good too, its an album that moves along , with a lovely version of 'Rose of Allendale' The title track is 'Fields of Dreams and Glory' Later, you tell me which ones you like best please. Do go and listen to him, he'll have travelled 3000miles further than most of us. we've been lucky to see more than once darn sarf and some of us have been lucky to see him close up.Thats the best way. With no distractions. To appreciate his voice try and be within 20 feet although you'll still hear him at 20 miles - joking -. Enjoy him |

Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: Nice Buns Date: 04 May 05 - 07:40 PM Did anyone go in The Plough this weekend... when we passed it was empty... What a shame!!! We used the Friendship Rowing Club as a venue during the festival. They have a great back bar and a brill beer garden over looking the river... A folk week must for sessions... |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: Nice Buns Date: 04 May 05 - 07:44 PM We are putting together the line up for next years festival over the next few weeks. Give us an idea of who you would like to see there... Remember we like to keep it a bit regional... Thats the North East region.. |

Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: oombanjo Date: 05 May 05 - 03:15 PM Thanks old git I'v always wanted to write that, as thats my nickname at work, but they won't let me sign my letters with it, If you are interested in new acts try "shifty pig" we are showcasing them on the fringe at Beverley this year They play Irish Scottish and border tunes, and remind me of "The Famous Five" In the way they put their music together. Cheers Oombanjo. |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: Red and White Rabbit Date: 05 May 05 - 06:54 PM It was great to see everyone again - thanks Glen and Co for a great festival - hope you'll get to Sheffield Festival again this year! ( sorry thread creep is a terrible disease!) Sorry the shower block became the latest venue for celebrity wrestling but hopefully the person concerned has apologised to Glen and his team as well as on Mudcat. Old Git - next time dont put Flossie on before I get there you rat - I was there well before 2.50! Lady A - stirling job in the kitchen and in the Tap and probably everywhere else. Glad to see you found time for your groupie work! Raggy can you PM me the list of names to go with the lifeboat song I hear it went down really well when you sang it at Runswick Bay. Les can you send me the Wilberforce motto for my song challenge - dont think it will be in 5/7 time though! Once again it was great to see everyone - especially Big D. in daddy mode with buckets, spades and plastic grabbing hands in the Endeavour on Sunday - can you play the wild rover on them too? Once again it was a great festival |

Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: GUEST,DMcF Date: 06 May 05 - 08:19 AM Huge thanks to all concerned at M&C - we had a grand time - friendly organisers/helpers/soundcrew - fine audience - ta muchly one and all. Thanks for the good raps Molly, Dan McKinnon's contribution to our set was a real treat for US as much as anyone else! |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: Rasener Date: 06 May 05 - 01:22 PM Just got back from Whitby. Enjoyed the festival very much. Thanks Glen and co for putting on a lovely weekend. My favourite acts and in no particular order were :- Antony John Clarke & (Forgotten the ladies name - sorry)- A sharp/witty/cool/great song dude. Look forward to seeing them at Gainsborough later in the year. Real Time - saw them twice - they were great - beautiful fiddle player. Flossie - what an act - witty and lovely singing - my wife and childrens favourite. Duncan Mcfarlane Band - well what can I say - Having seen Duncan on his own at my folkclub - (a very pleasant and nice artist) I was in for a big shock. The energy enthused by Duncan and his band was just amazing. Not sure if I would classify them as Folk Rock or Rock Folk. Whatever, I thoroughly enjoyed their act. They are well worth seeing if they are in your area. Where does Duncan get his energy from? The Ceilidh was a great success and the Appalachian Dancers were very good and Pig Dyke Molly were brilliant and a great success from my family's point of view. Barring unforseen circumstances, I hope to be there next year. Wish I was up there tonight (Friday) to see Jez Lowe and the bad pennies at one of the hotels in whitby. Les Worrall |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: GUEST,Woodchip Date: 07 May 05 - 12:29 PM 'Where does Duncan get his energy from?' Yeah - and at his age too! |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: Lizzie in beautiful Sidmouth Date: 07 May 05 - 06:09 PM I've yet to see Duncan and his band, but they're coming to Sidmouth so won't have to wait too long now! I've got their 'Woodshed Boys' CD. Brilliant!! Love their version of Nic Jones' 'Canadee-i-o' Then there's 'Bring 'em down', 'Woodshed Boys' and 'Can't Go There' as well....I'm on a roll now....just put the CD on and fast forwarded it to 'The Twohey Step' another of my favourites and my feet are off! I'd describe them as 'Fantastic Folk Electric.' How about that then Les? Can't stop a minute longer....have to go and dance wildly now! ;0) Lizzie :0) |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: Rasener Date: 08 May 05 - 03:43 AM You will certainly enjoy seeing them live Lizzie. How about Fantastic Electric Rock folk in short FERK There you go a new type of music. Come and do the FERK with Duncan and the band :-) |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: GUEST,DMcF Date: 08 May 05 - 04:39 AM Aw stoppit nah you naughty people. It's just folk-rock innit. Glad someone likes it tho' - cheers! |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: Rasener Date: 08 May 05 - 05:15 AM oops got that wrong didn't I It should have been FERF Come and do the FERF with Duncan and the band :-) |
Subject: RE: Whitby Moor and Coast 2005 From: GUEST Date: 08 May 05 - 06:03 AM Hmmmmm....Les..The FERF. I like the sound of that! ;0) This could be bigger than The Macarina.....do you remember that one? I think this could catch on as the 'new dance thing' at Sidmouth this year. We'll get all those Morris Boysies and Girlies dancing 'The Twohey Step' down on The Esplanade....they'll be able to hear it from The Ham marquee as it's right next to the sea. I reckon Duncan and his band will get all those beautiful bells jingling as they've never jingled before! ;0) Had better stop there before I get into trouble over dancing with Morris Boysies again!.....'Can't go there'..... ;0) And don't even get me started on Duncan's 'Bed of Straw'!! Why is that song not all over the Mike Harding Show? I think I need to organise a Radio Coup and take over Radio 2....get some of this fantastic music OUT...all over the BBC! Now I'm getting agitated!....I mean I'm listening to all these incredibly talented people out here in the Folk/Acoustic world and Mike's started playing Ramblin' Jack! I mean is it me?? (No-one answer that! ;0)..) Well, I'm off to start lunch and do The FERF round the kitchen to 'The Famous Floating B' now Les, so that will cheer me up again! :0) Enjoy the rest of your Sunday everyone. Lizzie :0) |
