Subject: BS: Pubic information service
From: GUEST,Guest from the Chat Room
Date: 07 Apr 05 - 04:54 PM

Spring is in the air - the sap is rising - and the Cat Chat Room is pondering on matters of deep significance.

Apparently
"Most Aussie men are" ... "Nearly all US men are", But
some would "swear that men never compare" ... Some
have "only ever seen one in [their] life";

Equally, some knew they'd "only seen one sort, but weren't sure which it was..."
Some have conducted unsuccessful field trials to gather empirical data; and some have seen baby ones but never grown up ones ...
While others have established that all the men they've slept with were...(but: before, during, or after was not established)

Obviously, this is question is of deep and abiding cultural significance and interest - at least to a Chat room full of female catters ..

So, which are you - Roundhead or Cavalier?

(Then we went on to enigmatically discuss the efficacy of lion poo as a rodent repellent and budding daffodils - I think?)

I think most people would rather their Chat chat was kept in the Chat room-- not characterized, quoted, or reacted to in the threads. Like PMs, what happens there ought really to stay there. That's why it's THERE.

You were not a guest. You were a memebr and part of the discussion. Too bad that many there may have considered you a friend.

1) I don't consider that EVERYTHING is sacrosanct - the basic topics discussed in the chat room MAY be grist for the mill in starting a BS thread. Some degree of discretion IS needed, though - and at least no-one was named.

2) If you are going to play as per 1) above however, pretending that you are anonymous when those who WERE in the chat can pretty well tell who you are is gutless - at least have the courage to identify yourself.

3) There are no GUESTS in the chat room - everyone is a member. I wasn't there, but I can narrow down my guesses as to who this alleged GUEST is to a handful - which may or may not be correct, and also smears all those suspects who are not guilty.

OWWT - I don't believe you were there - because as daft (I was going to say salacious or vulgar .. but, actually, it was just a daft bit of fun!) as the discussion was ... (and especially as we all dared each other to post this thread) ... I don't believe anyone present there would be so vulgar as to start swearing at someone else ...

And on a pedantic note: I am a Guest "here" on the thread now .. and I was (then) "from" the Chatroom.

If you were asked to do it, you should have said so at the outset. I hate to break it to the newer members, but there are actually a few community expectations here, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who recalls a time when most members not only knew them but respected them.

Never can tell when yer gonna step in shit around here, huh?

Mudcat Dynamics 101: The general tone of responses to a thread topic is established by the first respondent. If the initial response is lighthearted and favorable, then subsequent responses will be likewise. If the initial response is unfavorable, then the thread-starter is automatically an outcast and a moron and the bite of that first respondent will start a feeding frenzy that makes a school of blue sharks look like a buncha pikers.

Good grief!! I was one of the ones in the chat and it was all fun and a good laugh as always! When we talked about starting a thread about it, we thought that, Catters being the jolly, humorous people they are (we thought) we'd get some good witty comments. I've seen far nearer the knuckle threads than this started by some of the people who are decrying this one. It was done in a spirit of fun and I can see no reason why all you miseries are being so up your own...... Gosh GFTCR, I'm glad you did post as guest! We jokingly discussed 'outing' the person who was going to start the thread.....couldn't do it now...she might get her throat ripped out by men with no senses of humour! I'm truely disappointed in you all.

Love Lynne
PS Guest one who was there....I don't remember anyone who was there disagreeing with the idea of starting this thread.

I must confess. Although I did NOT start this thread, it is all my fault.

Whilst in the chat room last night, I was also watching a programme on TV called 'Life before birth' (sort of Womb with a View), and happened to partake a couple of choice details from the programme, in the interests of general education, on the grounds that a) a day you've learnt something new is a day not wasted and b) it might engender some amusing remarks.

It did indeed engender some amusing remarks in the chat. It also regressed back to the origins of the item discussed, which lead to the detailed and light-hearted discussion of 'roundheads or cavalliers' which was indulged in by members of both sexes who were in the chat room at the time.

I'm sorry. It's my fault.

It's also my understanding that either style makes no difference to hygiene, that entirely depends on the owner.

Friggin' amazing.................I'll grant that I'm around less than I used to be and things do change over time, but when the hell did the chat become some kindof privileged communication? Is there about to be another altercation.....this one between the chatters and non-chatters? How in the name of gawd do we take such simple and fun stuff and jam-pack it with rules?

Everybody step back a few paces and breathe deeply............Now take a good look at this thread................If you aren't now convulsed in laughter, repeat the process until you are.

I remember the stuff we talked about at night in the dormitory corridors was not necessarily the stuff we wanted to talk over at breakfast the next day. In fact, none of us had the bad taste to try it.
It's amazing what some people think is fun. Looks like you just had to be there.
As G,GFTCR has found out, one can't tell the difference between being nominated and being anointed, and being anonymous adds nothing to one's credibility.

well, as a party to the original Chatroom discussion, and therefore a vote FOR the person above to post it.
I thought (and still think) that this thread is
1 less offensive and controversial than some threads I have seen recently
2 an amusing addition to the BS around here
3 an opportunity for the very witty and punny Mudcatters to let their imaginations run riot.
4 and after all Rule One for BS threads,
if you dont like/are offended by a thread,
DON'T POST to it or read it!!!

Perhaps you need to go and lie down in a darkened chat room?

It is/was a joke Susan: what DO you think we were voting on? To reveal the name and status of individuals' foreskins? Hardly, as it was a majority female vote from a majority female room ... in pursuit of (salacious and daft) knowledge to add to the fund of knowledge about "members" e.g. how many catters have cats/ dogs/ play cover versions/ vote Republican/ run around nekkid and howl at the full moon?

Screwing third parties was only mentioned obliquely - vis "Centres of Continuing Education" as part of the Pubic Information Service. I assume you don't mean literally?

Okay, since somebody opened the playroom window and that awful stench seems to have drifted outdoors, I'll play now.

I'm pretty sure lion poo is an excellent rodent repellent. When's the last time you saw a mouse try to crawl up a lion's ass?

Now, if someone will explain the principle question asked in the opening thread, I'll try to come up with a witty response. I'm assuming "WTF?" no longer qualifies as witty.

WYZYWYG, no one who was in the chat room made any objection whatsoever. No names have been posted, though three of us have come on here under our own names and said we were there and it was all a laugh. What on earth are you going on about? It's certainly a far cry from >>popping in now and then to see who's getting raunchy with whom and report that out to various spouses...employers....>> No one has been hurt by this because no one has been mentioned. Not only that, but there is nothing in it to hurt anyone, unlike the idea of sneaking to spouses etc to report things said in the chat room. Though no one with any sense at all would say things in the chat room that their spouses would object to anyway!

It's a Chatroom...not a Confessional. If your going to chat about subjects that you rather other Folks won't hear about... PM (that is the confidential bit of this Forum?)or pick up the Telephone, compose an email, or write a Letter...

A chatroom is a private conversation??? eh...what's happening here on the Mudcat BS....between posters with mouths and brains like open sewers and Folks getting really pissy with each other......a lot of stuff is getting taken way too seriously and blown completely out of proportion and other things that merit an angry reaction are being ignored!!!

Is there a new rule ...Please leave your sense of Humor behind before entering the BS section or the Chatroom

(and there's me that only recently found out how to actually get into Chat... to chat, to have a friendly exchange, perchance a giggle or two.... certainly not my place of choice to hold a deeply personal, intimate, soul searching, confidential discussion!   ...$#****$$$***^^^%^%$#@!^&*)

Well, one kind is the kind who fails to realize how imitative Mudcat can be when some dickheads start trying to imitate or outdo other dickheads.... the kind who don't realize when they are at the top of a real slippery slope.... the kind who confuse intent with effect... the kind who would rather defend than think. In general I think the saddest decline of the Mudcat community has been the defensiveness-- swinging back when they perceive someone is taking them to task personally (who failed to read the puerility and actual intent of their minds).

I don't think anyone who objected to this discussion was male. Certainly, the single most vocal opponent was a woman, if I'm not mistaken.

Uncle DaveO's suggestion that this discussion belongs down in the BS section hardly counts. He always is quick to point out BS, and when he does so, he's almost always right ~ but he expresses no objection to continuing any discussion in the appropriate venue.
