John Leonard, now of BBC fame, used to sing, in the 70s, a children's song around the folk clubs of South Yorkshire with the following chorus:
All aboard all aboard let your reefing tackle fall,
Cast off weigh the anchor here we go.
For we sailed the seven seas and we still came home for tea,
Sailing on the Good Ship Rose.
Does anybody remember the rest of the words. John Leonard doesnt!

Phil, I'm still chuckling at that line. Thank you.

My search engine brought up "the Good ship Venus," "Good ship Lollipop," and a few others but "no Good Ship Rose."

There's a snippet on a Hay on Wey 11th day festival report:

She's sailed the seven seas
She captured many pirate ships
But was always home for tea

It may be related or not. When I followed the goggle link I couldn't find the phrase.

Charley Noble

That reference is in the introductory paragraph, Charley..."Crime writer Val McDermid launched her first children's book with dedication at the Hay Festival. The rhyming illustrated story begins: 'My granny is a pirate! She's sailed the seven seas / She captured many pirate ships / But was always home for tea' "
