D            Bm      A                D
Run, ladies, run, or else we're gonna get you
D            Bm          G    A7   D
Run, ladies, run, you'll never get away

   Bm         (D)          G      A7
A mile to the east and a mile to west
Bm             (D)      G       A7
There's a little girl that I love best
    Bm             (D)       G                A7
She run through the field, she run through the pasture
    Bm         (D)      G       A7
She run pretty fast, but I run faster

I got a gal at the end of the hollar
She won't come and I won't call her
Stubbornest gal that I ever seen
But I love 'em best when they're kind of mean

I got a girl lives up on the hill,
If she dont kiss me then her sister will
And if her sister can't be had,
They got a mother ain't half bad

My true love is a ding-dong daisy
If i dont get her I'll go crazy
But if I get her it'll be the same
'Cause a boy can't win at the courting game

This sounds like it might be a takeoff from Run, Nigger, Run (as done by Leadbelly) tunewise, patching in various floating light verses.

It seems to me that Oscar Brand "arranged" the songs for The Cumberland Three's "Civil War" albums.

The above song is certainly in his style.
