Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: GUEST,Lizzie in beautiful Sidmouth...again! Date: 21 Apr 05 - 08:19 AM (((((Hi Robbie!)))) Bit thick in the 'techy things' department! ;0) BTW...I forgot to mention to 'Red Guest' above that it's me that likes The Corrs (always like to be honest).....I know...hang, draw and quarter me...but I think they're great! Someone had come on and sworn about them a bit earlier and I don't think the Radio 2 board should be used to diminish talented people in such a derogatory way....also I'd just watched their video the day before, so they were fresh in my mind, as were the ecstatic faces of the 50,000 people who'd been watching them at Lansdowne Road, Dublin. But then I love music from Show of Hands to Jim McAdam....so there you go! ;0) Lizzie :0) |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: Jos Date: 22 Apr 05 - 03:40 AM Perhaps during the next 3 months Lizzie should get herself a big badge, or a t-shirt, saying LIZZZIE, and then people who go to Sidmouth will know who she is, and can either go up and give her a hug . . . or leg it. |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: GUEST Date: 22 Apr 05 - 04:33 AM What is your problem? I don't think Lizzie needs advice from you on how to meet friends. If you don't want to include yourself in that category I am sure it will not be difficult to keep away from her. If you don't like her postings don't read her threads. It's simple really |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: Jos Date: 23 Apr 05 - 04:31 AM Ah well. A grumpy sounding reply to something meant as light-hearted and friendly. (On second reading, it does look a bit unfriendly to people who don't like Lizzie, but that, again, was only meant to be light-hearted.) |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: GUEST,MBSLynne Date: 23 Apr 05 - 07:20 AM Well I took it as lighthearted and friendly. It's a pity "Guest" didn't say who they are. This sort of response doesn't help Sidmouth at all, but then, perhaps that was "Guest's" intention? Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: GUEST,New Visitor Date: 23 Apr 05 - 07:45 PM As a new visitor to this board I cannot believe what I am reading. I thought we were all supposed to be on the same side and mudcat was supposed to promote folk music. The Sidmouth debate and all the childish sniping can only put people off attending. Me included. Is that what you really want? Jane |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: GUEST,MBSLynne Date: 24 Apr 05 - 07:05 AM Unfortunately that does appear to be what one or two people want...I have no real idea why. Those of us who WILL be there and WILL have a good time have been posting positive, and often light and silly posts, but we are always being attacked and sniped at by people, almost invariably "Guests" who seem to have some agenda against the festival. It's obvious that some people are playing right into their hands. All I can say is to repeat that there will be a festival, a lot of us will be there, and it will be enjoyable, friendly and fun.... Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: Cllr Date: 24 Apr 05 - 02:15 PM lynne, dont feed the trolls - pound to a penny anyone who writes saying this thread is putting them off going is the very same person who is hoping thats what will happen but it wont 'cos we are all happy we are going to be there. cllr |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: steve_harris Date: 24 Apr 05 - 08:25 PM [quote]dont feed the trolls[quote] But, but, but, It's traditional :-) |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: MBSLynne Date: 25 Apr 05 - 02:55 AM Ah yes, but it's also traditional for someone to tell you NOT to do it.... |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: Jos Date: 25 Apr 05 - 04:10 AM I think Jane may well be a genuine 'normal person', and that Lynne was right to be nice to her. So cheer up, Jane. Come to Sidmouth and you will find lots of friendly, intelligent, normal people. |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: GUEST Date: 25 Apr 05 - 08:07 AM If Jane was a "normal person" would she be on a mudcat forum in the first place - but thats a topic for another thread. Trolls have feelings too, you know, and they get hungry - so why not feed the Sidmouth detractors to the trolls and kill two birds with one stone so to speak :o) I do hope I have not offended any animal rights 'catters with that proverb. Mal :o) |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: MBSLynne Date: 25 Apr 05 - 05:25 PM It did occur to me to question how many of the friendly people at Sidmouth could actually be counted as normal! Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: Bonecruncher Date: 25 Apr 05 - 08:45 PM Well, Lynne, if you consider that twisting people into knots, or sticking your hand up a cow's arse, to be normal, then here's two of us!!! Colyn. |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: GUEST,MBSLynne Date: 26 Apr 05 - 03:06 AM Lol Colyn! And those are only the 'on the surface' aspects...weirdness and eccentricity goes soul-deep!! Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: sawhawk Date: 20 May 05 - 11:10 PM hello to you all seems to me that you dont belive in faries and the power of magic and how the sidhe is in fact a music of the fair folk and as the last of the fair folk sidmouth will always be to me my home and birth place music is my life my work my way of thinking and as many of you know my views and my past i willnot go into that but will say why waste time play on sidmouth is alive and well and never died only loss of things money can buy but the things that are the right things are things money cant buy music and the playing of it has always been the plan of the big people the charge for it but they cant play and they never will and that as my late father said is as simple as that see you all soon and keep on playing see you at sidmouth |

Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: Lizzie in beautiful Sidmouth Date: 21 May 05 - 02:55 PM DoRy, I'm glad your dad's band are coming.....I'm sure you'll enjoy yourselves. Not only will the atmosphere be buzzing, but it's a very beautiful place as well. Here's the website for the 'Seaside Heaven' Tourist Guide booklet. Not too good at getting it to activate I'm afraid....(techy dingbat!) but I'm sure you'll be able to link in via the e mail address. Some lovely piccies. http://www.visitsidmouth.co.uk/ Sawhawk....thank you for putting your magic around Sidmouth. Hope you have a great time. Lizzie :0) |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: DoRy Date: 21 May 05 - 03:39 PM Thanks Lizzie - my dad comes on here sometimes i think his names rhyzler or something .... can't wait Love DoRy xox |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: Lizzie in beautiful Sidmouth Date: 21 May 05 - 06:00 PM Aw DoRy....I know who he is now! Say 'Hello' to him for me. You know, the internet is an amazing thing, because I'm now sitting here typing to you, whilst listening to your Dad's music on my headphones, via his website! 'Ted's air' is on at present...it's lovely! We're getting tickets to see 'Rhyzome' on the Saturday, down at Dukes 'Acoustic Cafe'. Might get to see you too then I hope. And...tell Dad he's on Page 5 of my programme! Dukes is the former Marlborough Hotel and is right on the sea front. They'll have a covered area outside for the bands to play in, so you can sit there and watch him AND hear the sea.....well....maybe not... if they're playing loudly. ;0) You've literally only to cross the road and you're on the beach. 'Dreaming of Caledonia' has just started so I'm off to listen to the rest of it. (shhhhh....don't tell him, but blimey....I'm impressed! Gentle music, I love gentle music.) "....I thought I heard an eagle calling out across the sky, descending in a spiral, with its' young learning to fly. Then my mind it flashed into the past and a battle fought long ago, with broken General Anders' men fleeing from his Highland foe....And I dreamed that I was back in Caledonia. Like a butterfly I flew on powdered wings, and I dreamt that I was lying in the heather once again........" It's no good....all this talk of Caledonia, Eagles and Heather is reminding me of sweet Dougie McLean....and my smile is increasing with each note, so I'd best go quick! ;0) Lovely to 'talk' to you DoRy. Hope to see you shortly. Really looking forward to meeting your Dad and seeing them all playing. Lizzie :0) |

Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 23 May 05 - 05:36 PM Don't know for sure, John, but the only commercial site that might usually have space this late in the year would be Kingsdown Tail. Given that there may well be a smaller number of attenders this year, it would be worth trying Part Thorne, or Salcombe Regis, just in case, tho' they normally fill up by mid April, at the latest. All are on the bus round, with services back till 2.15 am, and they're all decent sites. BTW, the bus co never leaves anyone behind at the last bus, they bring in another vehicle if necessary, even if it's only one passenger. Hope to see you at the Bedford, at some point. Don T. |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth is OPEN, ALIVE and HAPPENING From: MBSLynne Date: 24 May 05 - 02:36 AM Not true Don! Part Thorne always has quite a lot of space and we've never booked. In fact it's quite difficult to book as Malcolm has never quite managed to get his booking system off the ground! He usually says "Just turn up". And there's no one to check you in or out or anything anyway. It will probably be possible to get on to the main site without prior booking too I should think, though I may be wrong Love Lynne |
