Subject: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Sooz Date: 17 Apr 05 - 10:34 AM Bee-dubya-ell's post about the amorphous lump of washed paper in the pockets thread made me wonder about the other daft things we've washed. Most of us must have had to piece together soggy banknotes but what else will you own up to? |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Liz the Squeak Date: 17 Apr 05 - 10:37 AM Washed my pocket clock more times than necessary... only stopped working when I stood on it. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: beardedbruce Date: 17 Apr 05 - 10:39 AM Sooz, US currancy can be washed without any problems- it has a high enough fiber content to act more like cloth than paper. Bills do have a tendency to fade a little, after multiple washings.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: SINSULL Date: 17 Apr 05 - 10:47 AM A ballpoint pen - what a mess! And a red sweater in with the whites which were ever after pink. I don't take laundry nearly as seriously as I should. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: JennyO Date: 17 Apr 05 - 10:55 AM I just hate it when I miss a tissue in a pocket - I do check them, but occasionally miss one - and it always seems to be in a load of dark coloured clothes. They end up with little white bits all over them which take ages to pick off. Grrrrr! Jenny |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Sooz Date: 17 Apr 05 - 11:25 AM I find that kitchen roll is more resilient in the wash. It doesn't disintegrate like tissues - so I use it instead! |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: JennyO Date: 17 Apr 05 - 11:31 AM Bit hard on the nose though - ouch! |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Sooz Date: 17 Apr 05 - 11:44 AM No harder than tissues if you pick your brand! Thanks for that information Bruce - I must remember to only leave US currency in my pockets :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Severn Date: 17 Apr 05 - 11:51 AM How many guys accidentally washed the scrap of paper with the phone number of the woman who could have changed your life forever, for better, but of course, you never saw again? |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Severn Date: 17 Apr 05 - 11:55 AM I just checked out my pocket thread extension, gave it a pull and had the entire contents of my pocket fall down my pants leg. Thanks a lot, guys! Fell for THAT one, didn't I? |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: open mike Date: 17 Apr 05 - 02:12 PM ever hear of laundering your money....ask the mafia. luckily i have had a tube of lip balm come thru the wash intact a few times...lucky also that i use cold water or else it could have been a different story.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: GUEST,Rapaire Date: 17 Apr 05 - 03:15 PM A .22 bullet. Coins. Lip balm. A highlighter with water soluble ink (hah!). Ball point pens. A chocolate bar. The bullet went through okay, as did the coins. They fell out and ended up in the washer. I do not suggest drying the lip balm, the ink containing things, or the chocolate bar. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Peace Date: 17 Apr 05 - 03:17 PM "ever hear of laundering your money....ask the mafia." The mafia does NOT exist. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Mark Cohen Date: 17 Apr 05 - 05:32 PM Not too long ago I took a pair of pants out of the dryer, and found my wallet still in the pocket. Fortunately, most of the cards were plastic and survived intact--can even still be scanned in ATMs and other machines. The money was nicely laundered and still worked fine. And I needed to update the photo of my daughter anyway. I did get a new wallet, though. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Morticia Date: 17 Apr 05 - 06:52 PM a chocolate rat..........I have no idea why, but that was in my coat pocket.....along with tissues, keys, lip balm and several train tickets. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: open mike Date: 17 Apr 05 - 08:56 PM no cosa nostra? only disorganized crime? |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Shanghaiceltic Date: 18 Apr 05 - 12:02 AM I often forget the business cards in the pockets of my shirts, the result a lot of washed fluff all over my favourite T shirts. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Sooz Date: 18 Apr 05 - 02:44 AM What about the things that didn't survive? A colleague of mine absent mindedly put a condom in her pocket after a contraception lesson. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when she tried to explain to the washing machine repairman as he removed it from the pump! |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Davetnova Date: 18 Apr 05 - 06:56 AM Five pound notes shrink. This can cause headscratching in shops. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 18 Apr 05 - 04:29 PM A nest which a wren had built in a pair of jeans that were on the line to dry. Mud splash from a sudden rainstorm necessitated their rewashing, so I tossed them back in the washer without realizing they had a bird's nest in them. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Sooz Date: 19 Apr 05 - 02:51 AM Someone should start a "daftest place for a birds nest" thread! (We had a blackbird nest in the top of a pile of evaporating basins in our school chemical store - cramped our experimental style for a few weeks!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: Splott Man Date: 19 Apr 05 - 03:23 AM Washing them is fine, but thin plectrums come out of the tumble dryer all corrugated. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pocket thread extension From: RangerSteve Date: 19 Apr 05 - 09:05 PM I don't know how a mouse got into my laundry bag, but it did, and it got washed to death. |
