Subject: RE: BS: 4/19/05 Free Cone day at Ben & Jerry's From: LilyFestre Date: 19 Apr 05 - 10:58 AM My husband helped to build the main Ben & Jerry's plant in Vermont some years ago. He reports (at least during that time period), all employees were allowed free ice cream on breaks and a pint a day to take home. LF |

Subject: RE: BS: 4/19/05 Free Cone day at Ben & Jerry's From: Dave'sWife Date: 19 Apr 05 - 04:44 PM We just went down to Ben & Jerry's about an hour ago with some kids from the street and I ordered Dublin Mudslide. I stuck it in the freezer for later but took a bite. Yum. I don't think that Ben & Jerry's has been sold. They had various charity reps there collecting what you would have paid for a scoop from people and doing a brisk business. Lots of happy children and lunchtime workers! |

Subject: RE: BS: 4/19/05 Free Cone day at Ben & Jerry's From: GUEST, Ebbie Date: 21 Apr 05 - 02:31 AM Well, I decided it was just a bit too far to go to get a free cone yesterday so I didn't make it. It's 909 miles. By air. |
Subject: RE: BS: 4/19/05 Free Cone day at Ben & Jerry's From: GUEST,Jon Date: 21 Apr 05 - 05:23 AM It sounds a bit too commercial to me. Giok, my idea of ice-cream heaven is a little shop in Sheringham which sells Ronaldo ice creams which are made in Norwich. Last time I was there I had a tuti-fruity and was warned it didn't look like the usual shop bought ones. He was right - it was purple - I guess it must have taken the colour on from blackcurrants - they don't us artificial colours or flavourings. |

Subject: RE: BS: 4/19/05 Free Cone day at Ben & Jerry's From: GUEST,reggie miles Date: 21 Apr 05 - 04:29 PM I've been disappointed in B&J since they stopped selling pints of Coconut Almond Fudge in the local grocery stores. I was strung out on that flavor like a junkie. Hmmm, maybe there was more in the ingredient description than they were willing to reveal. I complained to the stores that used to carry it, and I even wrote B&J an email asking why they would forsake such rabid product devotion but received no response, or action on the part of those who had been carrying B&J products. It's certainly an odd way of doing business, to develop and offer a product, then build a following for it, but instead of supplying the demand for it, they just discontinued it. I've seen this happen time and time again with all sorts of products. (beyond the cone) Over ten years ago, the jug band I was playing with at the time, Strangers with Candy, was offered a tour from a record company that B&J had stock in. We couldn't accept the terms and the tour never happened. Ah, memories. |
