Patrick Flemming, an Irish Highwayman who held Sway near the Bog of Allen and,
after numerous Murders, was executed on 24th of April, 1650 per The Complete
Newgate Calendar
, Vol. I

The first known record of his song is about 1800:

As I was going over Ruberry mountain,
Gold and silver there was counting
He thought it little I thought it better,
I took the Gold from Colonel Pepper.

"Patrick Flemming" [also known as McCollister or The Irish
Robber or Whiskey in the Jar, etc - [thanx Bruce Olson]
