Looks like you came across something interesting, Greg. I had trouble with the URL you posted. Is this the one you meant?

http://www.ucolick.org/~sla/morris/music/music.html

This leads you to a library of music in ABC format, and has a link to a page about transmitting music on the WWW. This page talks about your ABC files, and should explain how you can play and print them.

It also talks of a converter for Songwright files like the ones on Digital Tradition. I wonder if it will work. I'd sure like to make better use of the tunes on Digital Tradition, but I can't see spending a hundred bucks for Song Wright. I think it's time to switch the Digital Tradition tunes to a format that's more widely available. Dick, are you listening?

Hi- Yep, we're listening. We're working on---and haven't found yet--a no-cost method of transcribing the tunes in the DT. SongWright works, but it costs, and we're looking at a $10-20 subset that will permit printing. ABC works, but the SongWright-to-ABC converter isn't really a reliable product as far as we can tell. AND it requires that you have a C compiler.

The way our thinking is running now, we're going to try converting our files to MIDI, which makes playing them easy, since all the major Web Browsers have MIDI players; then we'll pursue MIDI-to-ABC converters. The thing to remember is that most of the DT's users are cyberphobes; we have to keep it simple to use.

Have faith. And a bit of patience.

I have been following this thread with great interest.

I use a machine in an office environment where sound output is not acceptable. So any readable protocol would suit me (as long as it is defined somewhere).

This is not a complaint. I think you guys are doing a great job.

Bert.
