Having just posted Lincoln Park Pirates I note that in searching the archives for those lyrics I ran across mention of the song in a thread entitled Lyr Req: Songs about Lincolns, which actually is about the Lincoln car (luxury make, in the US, from a division of Ford). I notice the song, on the other hand, refers to Chevys and Edsels. Now there are plenty of songs about Chevys, and many more that mention them in passing, but what of the Edsel? Are there any real "songs about Edsels"? If you don't know what an Edsel is, Google can probably help (try the Images approach).

Well, you will find Edsel mentioned in Since Henry Ford Apologized to Me. Musta been tough to have been the son of Henry Ford. I wonder where the name Edsel came from, anyhow.

Edsel Ford was a family member (perhaps son of Henry I?) who served a long and productive term as President of Ford Motor Company. The car was named in his honor ~ turned out to be more of an insult than an honor, unfortunately.

Ooops, now I just reread Joe's message, and realize I had completely misunderstood.

I thought he was wondering where the name of the car came from, but now I see that he knows the car was named after the son, but wonders where in the world Henry and the Mrs. came up with such a weird name for their baby boy. I have to wonder, too ~ "Edward" or "Edmund" wouldn't have been a good enough name?

At the time they came out there was a phrase coined that it looked like Elanor R with hed lites on her knees

In the film Peggy Sue Got Married Kathleen Turner goes back to her childhood, and when her father comes home with a new car, expecting admiring glances from all his family, Peggy Sue says "Oh God, you bought an Edsel!" Hindsight is a wonderful viewing glass.
