Subject: Eastleigh Festival From: GUEST,Hampshire Hog Date: 09 May 05 - 12:30 PM I see the full line-up for the Eastleigh Festival in Hampshire has been announced today - it's being staged between Thursday 4 August and Sunday 7 August. Headliners include Capercaillie; The Proclaimers; Lunasa; Bellowhead; The Saw Doctors; The Michael McGoldrick Band; Beth Nielsen Chapman; Ashley Hutchings' Rainbow Chasers; The Peatbog Faeries; Croft No.5; Country Joe McDonald; Session A9; T&LaTouche (ex-Edward II); Martha Tilston; The Duhks; Mark Saul; Rolf Harris and many more. Sounds like a line-up to die for! See http://www.eastfest.co.uk for further details |
Subject: RE: Eastleigh Festival From: GUEST,Sunny Date: 09 May 05 - 12:35 PM I believe Laurel Swift and all The Shooting Roots people are also doing workshops at Eastleigh. They were great at Sidmouth and now they've moved to Eastleigh I'm looking forward to seeing them there. |
Subject: RE: Eastleigh Festival From: GUEST,Top Cat Date: 09 May 05 - 05:01 PM This looks like a tremendous line-up for anyone who enjoys traditional music with a celtic feel. Certainly a very strong alternative to Sidmouth which is taking place around the same time. |
Subject: RE: Eastleigh Festival From: Mrs_Annie Date: 10 May 05 - 09:08 AM Well we are hoping to go from Cambridge to Sidmouth then on to Eastleigh! Well we have to celebrate hubby's 50th birthday in style. |
Subject: RE: Eastleigh Festival From: GUEST,The Devonian Date: 10 May 05 - 09:38 AM I wondered whether Eastleigh might replace Sidmouth in the folk festival calendar but it looks as if the dates fall nicely for people travelling on from Sidmouth to Eastleigh. |
Subject: RE: Eastleigh Festival From: GUEST,Tubby Date: 10 May 05 - 07:27 PM I'm one of those giving Sidmouth a miss this year but I am going to Eastleigh, Cambridge and Trowbridge. The list of artists at Eastleigh looks really good. We don't get many chances to see Capercaillie in the south of England and to have Beth Nielsen Chapman, Bellowhead and Ashley Hutchings' new band all on the same day represents really good value for money especially as Rolf Harris is on the same day as well. |

Subject: RE: Eastleigh Festival From: GUEST,Another GUEST Date: 13 May 05 - 03:33 PM That's a great post from GUESTabove. Did you just press the 'delete' button by mistake or did you have nothing to say? Or maybe you're looking at the Eastleigh website http://www.eastfest.co.uk before commenting? That's what I've just done. I've never heard of the Eastleigh Festival before (is it new?) but the list of bands suggests it could be well worth a trip down to Hampshire. I wonder if Ashley Hutchings will sing a duet with Rolf Harris? Or maybe the wonderful Beth Nielsen Chapman will duet with the equally excellent Karen Mathiesen? There's certainly some quality singers & musicians at this one. |
Subject: RE: Eastleigh Festival From: GUEST,Buttons Date: 13 May 05 - 06:24 PM I would imagine that many of the younger element who enjoyed the roots events at Sidmouth will follow Laurel Swift and her Shooting Roots team to this new festival in Eastleigh. With bands like The Peatbog Faeries and Croft No.5 appearing, Eastleigh is likely to appeal to those who enjoy the celtic / crossover / world dance music. Mind you, Ashley Hutchings, Capercaillie and Beth Nielsen Chapman will also attract more traditional folk music enthusiasts. It's an interesting new addition to the summer festivals calendar. |
Subject: Eastleigh Festival From: GUEST,Sunny Date: 15 May 05 - 09:29 AM I've had a really nice mailing from Laurel to say, yes, she and the Shooting Roots team will be running workshops at Eastleigh and at many others festivals this summer. The only place they are not returning to is Sidmouth. It's Sidmouth's loss as many of the Shooting Roots participants will follow Laurel (pied piper style) to other festivals this summer. |
