I'm the lad the fairies had to tea, to tea

Someone at one of our sessions said his dad (who is of very advanced years) remembers singing a tune with this chorus as a party peace. Anyone heared of this?

Don

As Katie one night , by sunset light was busy spinning her thread,

'twas Tin came by with a laugh in his eye and listen to what he said

I had a fling with the fairy queen, where fairies dance (something, something).

If you'll come this night where stars are bright you'll see, you'll see.

For I'm the lad the fairies have had to tea, to tea.

Re: Song of the queer prince

As Katie one night by moonlight bright
sat busy spinning her thread,

'Twas Tim came by with a laugh in his eye,
and now listen to what he said,

"I've had a fling in a fairy ring, where fairies dance and sing and play
won't you come this night while stars are bright,
You'll see, You'll see,

For I'm the lad the fairies have had,

To tea, ... to tea !!

It is a song that my dear mother taught me --
I'm not sure of the title, but she told me that it was from a play
that she was in when she was a girl. Does any one know it ?
When I learn the ABC notation (help:?) I'll try to write it out.

There appears to be another thread on this song. Perhaps they could be linked or combined.

link

The book Elementary music by Giddings, Earhart, Baldwin, and Newton (1923) includes the song under the title "A Fairy Tale" and lists the song as being by Mary Stanhope and Arthur B. Targett. The lyrics to the second stanza there are different than the ones provided at the above links and appear to complete Joe's friends' request from link 1 above.

When stars have come out,
A brownie scout
Has met the two on the moor,
And shown the way
Where fairies at play
Make a ring on the grassy floor.
All blue and green
And of silver sheen,
In circles flew
The fairy crew;
But it's Tim who wheels
And shows his heels,
Afraid, afraid;
While sweet Kathleen
Is chosen their queen
Fair maid, fair maid!

Sheet music is also at that link.

Correction: they appear to match the request and lyrics from link 2 above and not the first. Also, the third from last line should read "While sweet Kathleen"
