Subject: 5TH ANNUAL NOR CAL FOLK CAMP OUT
From: open mike
Date: 13 May 05 - 01:03 PM

Once again, the time has come to gather in the woods
and sing and play at the yearly folk music camp out.
see these threads for previous years announcements..
2003 invite

This is at a simple camp ground by a
beautiful lake in the foothills
of the Sierra Nevada. The local
folk music society hosts a jam
on the first saturday of the month
at a coffee shop in a town (Chico)
In June we head for the hills to
spend the weekend out doors the
week after the Strawberry music festival.
see the Butte Folk Music Society web page for more info

Cheers,

o.k. just home from this
a good time was had by all
we jammed into the night
and told stories around
the camp fire...some thing
we never get to do at festivals
because fires are not allowed.

the music was beautiful, the
food and fellowship were great,
and we saw geese and osprey
on the lake.

Look for another event next year,
same time same station...

Just a few folks from the local folk music society..
my duet partner Buckwheat Bob, who i perform with some
as Laurel Woodsorrel. And a bluegrass picker or two.

The first person to arrive waas "Joe" and i thought it
might have been Mr. Offer, but alas, no mud cats.

there were several others who came to enjoy the music,
listen and hang out with us..

I expect to host this event again next June....
look for announcements...

i brought my new camp toy..an oven...in which we heated
food, and used the griddle on top for quesadillas...

We just completed the 7th annual camp hoot and holler overnight jam.
The first weekend of June is the date, and look forward to the 8th annual in 2008. The weekend after Memorial Day/Strawberry Spring Music Festival. There will be a festival at this same Campground on June 28 - July 1. the Wild Mountain Fair. Less folky and more reggae and rock. the campground is a beautiful spot and it will be fun.

Your invitation is tempting. But it's a long way to drive from Portland for one day of singing. On the other hand, I started a similar singing weekend many years ago--and it's still going strong 25 years later (Singtime Frolics near Portland, last weekend in March)--and I like to support other similar efforts.

Would it be worth it for me? How has it been going recently? Tell me more details. Make me want to be there!

David

I drove up to Rainy Camp a few years back...
or was it called Sunny Camp?
Mary Garvey's deal....

It would be great if Catters would attend
this little camp out...it would be a good
place to meet...west coast catters...who
is up for this??!!

this campground is an oasis...rustic and
peaceful...with geese and other critters.
A whole bunch of baby ducks were hatched
a few days ago. There is an Emu and also
other wild critters...a flock of turkeys
often can be seen in the area.

If you need more info about location, and
directions, e-mail me at veraloe (at)
gotsky (dot) com.

Our focus/theme last year was U. Utah
Phillips and we sang a lot of his songs
in his memory. I think this year we
should sing "For Pete's Sake" for Pete
Seeger's birthday!!

Here is the new web site for the camp=
ground which is named after the local
tribe. The Concow tribe is in the Maidu
family, related to the Yana and Yahi
which were peaceful inhabitants of
the Northern California area. Ishi,
known as the "last wild indian"
was from near here, and there are
grinding rocks where the first
people used to grind acorns to eat.
We camp on the shores of a reservoir
which was formed in 1926 by the Wilenor
Dam.

Most participants of our campout are
from the local folk music society,
but we have had people from Sacramento
(hello--Joe--might you join us this time??)
Santa Rosa--MichaelR--
and other places....always room for more!!

Laurel

reminder--this is tomorrow..
rain or shine.
i have lots of tarps
and there is a roof
over the picnic tables
we should be cozy
no matter the weather

we ain't got a barrel of money
we may look ragged and funny
but we'll travel along
singing a song SIDE BY SIDE
.......
Thru all kinds of weather.
What if the sky should fall.
Just as long as were together
it doesn't matter at all..
