It matters to me, cos I want my PMs and the Mudchat..the forum is only secondary in my use of Mudcat, especially at the moment when there is very little on the threads of any interest to me.

Ms Azizi - a bit more info on The Annex. It's one of the 3 sites I visit nightly (Mudcat & Help are the others)

Jon started it so Mudcatters could have a place to discuss non-music stuff, tho Many Mudcatters only visit The Annex when Mudcat is down. His mother Pip is now administrator of The Annex. Jon used to be a Mudcatter & sometimes still posts on Mudcat, especially on TECH threads.

Jon also started folkinfo for music research. Folkinfo (www.folkinfo.org) also has chat.

It appears that what browser you are using can make a difference in being able to get in the front door. I was unable to get in using IE or AOL's browser, but Opera connected with no problem.

As I understand it, the two doors are not only `on different servers (boxes), but MudHelp (help.mudcat.org) is on the same server as the backdoor.

Quite often lately I've only been able to get in through the back door, but from there I can go into the front room. Yesterday and this morning I got in the front door ok but it was unbelievably slow. My IT husband says it sounds like a....I've forgotten what he said....problem, not a server prob.

To register in The Annexe, one first must be registered at Mudcat. And register with one's Mudcat handle.

Usually when I come in by way of the back door, pages load up much faster than they are doing now. I'm experiencing very sloooow page loading.

Is this happening with anyone else?


And BTW, there may be some people who might happen on this thread through the front door and don't know the back door URL. So here it is:

Jenny, it was working, but very slowly. Click a link, go make a glass of iced tea, come back and check. As long as I wasn't too frustrated, it wasn't a big deal but it quit working at all and I'm now guestified.

I should say I BELEVE the front & back doors are different machines - not 100% sure.

What is puzzling me, is that for the last few hours I've been trying every few minutes to get in the front door, and only getting in the back door, and obviously a lot of others have been having the same trouble, and yet there has been a smattering of people, like you Jeri, not posting as guests. How on earth do you do it? Is it working for a minute or two occasionally, or what?

The front door is a different machine from the back door. The front door machine can be having a bad hair day, but the back door might be fine. You can't get cookies with the IP address though.

consider it like a building where normally you enter through the front door. Something happens which makes the front door "stick" or otherwise not work. You use an alternate route.

Exaclty the same thing is happenning here. But a couple of "rooms" directly off the front door (supersearch, chat, cookie recognition) are ONLY accessible through the front door.
