This Saturday, the St Louis Women's Chorale and the Kansas City Women's Chorus join in a free concert.

These are highly professional, skilled groups of singers, and the performance should be excellent. I don't know what's on the program, though.

Date: Sat, May 21, 2005
Time: 7 pm
Place: Guardian Angels Catholic Church
       1310 Westport Road
       Kansas City MO 64111

Guardian Angels is a white limestone church which is about halfway between State Line Road and the Southwest Trafficway. Roanoke Parkway, which is the west edge of the Plaza, makes a T with Westport Road just west of Guardian Angels. The church has a nice big parking lot.

I went to a concert by the St Louis Women's Chorale once, and the beginning number was by Hildegard von Bingen. When the women in the choir loft started the song, the sound was like liquid gold flowing down all over us.

Bring your daughters and granddaughters.

I'm devout Lapstatheist, but recently I had occasion to attend a mass at a large RC chapel.
The singing by the choir was absolutely beautiful...although i couldn't understand a word.

The whole service was quite an eye opener, even for an old sinner like me ....Best wishes for your concert Daft wee wumman....Ake

Hi Leeneia....Lately I'v become very fond of choral music.

Here in Scotland we have an annual festival of Gaelic music and culture called the National Mod.
It contains choirs of all ages singing traditional Gaelic music.

I find the childrens choirs especially emotive and understand what CLW means by her "sound of liquid gold".....Ake

Yes, there's something about people singing together, truly together, that stirs the blood.

I wonder if birds feel something like that in their dawn chorus.

Well I live out in the wilds of Argyll, and the wee beggars start about five AM.

They certainly stir my blood !!

Seriously I agree about singing together.
Thats what I enjoyed most about the folk revival. The chorus songs, when people were not too self- conscious to come together in song.

I can remember some very moving experiences....Ake
