Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Dve Gitari / Two Guitars (Russian/Gypsy) From: M.Ted Date: 09 May 06 - 03:10 PM This song one that everyone will recognize when they hear it, though they might not know the name. It is not sung much, but every "Pops" orchestra that ever played a concert of or recorded an album of Gypsy/Russian music has done it, and every strolling violinist has played it (at least two dozen times a night)--play a C chord for the am6--and remember that it starts out slow, with a hold at the end of each phrase, and it goes faster and faster--there are several melodic phrases, each sounds a lot harder to play than it really is--it's the original "cheap trick" show off number-- Go find a recording of it--you'll get the idea-- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Dve Gitari / Two Guitars (Russian/Gyp From: GUEST Date: 29 Apr 08 - 08:25 PM this song was arranged by Henry Lefkovitch in the thirties. it is an obscure book, but the Interlochen Music Library had a copy. i think it is called Russian Gypsy Love songs and lullabies... i don't know though. and his name might be spelled with a "w" instead of a "v". Lefkovitch had it in g minor. |

Cyrilic, of course because I can read russian pretty well - english transcription is a bit confusing. Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Dve Gitari / Two Guitars (Russian/Gypsy) From: Artful Codger Date: 08 Feb 10 - 08:32 PM Try this page (http://a-pesni.golosa.info/romans/2gitary.htm) for several variants of the lyrics and written melody with guitar chords. I've found this to be a reliable site, with source citations, multiple versions and, usually, sheet music scans. It is also perhaps the most complete collection of Russian folk song lyrics on the net. The original words were written by Appolon Grigor'ev (1822-1864), to a Hungarian gypsy motif, though the music is often attributed to I. Vasil'ev. |
