Subject: Shanty singing in New Orleans From: GUEST,Keith Fawcett Date: 19 May 05 - 12:41 AM Anyone interested in some nice shanty singing in New Orleans/ If you are in town look us up. We are the N.O. Quarter Shanty Krewe and we are trying to blaze a trail on the shanty scene here in one of the world's great sailortown. If you are coming down for a visit you can contact "k.c.king@cox.net" and he will fill you in on dates and times. We are starting to sing regularly at O'Flaherty's Irish Channel Pub in the French Quarter. We invite all to share house singing or pub singing and share a pint and have some fun. See you there. Subject: RE: Shanty singing in New Orleans From: GUEST,Keith Fawcett Date: 29 May 05 - 12:26 PM Ahoy Charley, We had a great shanty sing last night at O' Flaherty's. We plan to have a seesion once a month. Some of the songs about or important to New Orleans. Well "Sugar in the Hold", "Running down to Cuba", "The Glendie Burke" all relate to New Orleans. We have a great time and welcome all. Keith |
Subject: RE: Shanty singing in New Orleans From: GUEST,celtaddict at work Date: 29 May 05 - 11:31 PM When I saw Poppagator's thread I knew you and KC were involved, and probably O'Flaherty's as well. Can't wait to be back down there in one of my favorite places and lift a voice together again. Are you making it to Mystic this year? (drift drift) There are many New Orleans shanties and related songs, Charley, and we hear them up here but they sound better down there! |
