Happy Birthday!

John Churchill, duke of Marlborough

born May 26, 1650
(d6/16/1722).

One of England's greater generals, who led British and allied in the War of the Spanish Succession (same guy as in "Gay Fusillier"

I am an Englishman by birth,
        And Marlborough is my name,
In Devonshire I drew my breath,
        That place of noted fame;
I was beloved by all my men,
        By King and Prince likewise,
Though many towns I often took,
        I did the world surprise.

                 "Marlboro"
[from Contemplator & DigTrad filename[ LORDMARL]

ALSO:
A gay fusillier came marching down through Rochester
Bound for the wars in the Low Countries.
And he sang as he marched through those crowded streets of Rochester
"Who'll be a soldier with Marlborough and me?"

"Marching Through Rochester" by Peter Coe (based on "The Gay (Bold) Fusillier."

The tune of "The Gay (Bold) Fusillier" was later used for "Thee Bonny Wood of Craigielea" and its tune was later used for "Waltzing Matilda" and its tune was later used for "Marching Through Rochester." I think there's something circular in there but there's confrontation and possible violence involved in this depending on who tells the tale.
