Subject: Tech: Mudcat font change From: mandoleer Date: 28 May 05 - 05:28 PM Don't know if it's my machine or what, but Mudcat has gone into a non-proportional font here. (That is, something boring like typewriters used to use, like Courier, but this doesn't look like Courier.) Anyone else noticed a difference, or is it me? Maybe the site is now using a font I ain't got. If so, could someone tell me, please, before I go nuts (OK, nuttier) looking at this stuff. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Font change From: Hamish Date: 28 May 05 - 05:40 PM It's you. Seriously, I'm looking at the usual Times New Roman. Try this: arial courier helvetica wingdings ...which should have been arial, courier, helvetica and wingdings. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Font change From: Bill D Date: 28 May 05 - 05:48 PM must be some setting got changed...or the remote possibility that some of your font files got deleted. I see the 4 fonts just as Hamish posted them. ask your browser what fonts IT is set to show by default. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Font change From: JohnInKansas Date: 28 May 05 - 05:55 PM No indication of what browser you're using, but if it happens to be Internet Explorer, click "Tools" on the upper toolbar, then select "Internet Options." At the bottom of the screen that opens, there should be a button labelled "Fonts." You can select which fonts are used for web pages where no font is specified. A "fancy layout" page can still override your selection to display what the page designer wants you to see. Most of the fonts available on your machine should be available for the "web page fonts" selection, and most of the ones offered here will be proportional, although there usually are a couple of monospaced ones. If you do much cross-cultural browsing, it may help to select something like Times New Roman, Arial, or Verdana that are likely to have extended font tables on your machine so that you'll see all the accents & umlauts & such correctly. Selections in the "text" box are generally more limited, and most are usually monospaced. If you're using another browser, I can't be specific, but you'll likely find a setup somewhere in Tools, View, etc that lets you choose a default. If it's not a simple change in your selected default font, it's possible the one that's selected may have been deleted or damaged, and your browser is defaulting to the "simplest availabe." John |

Subject: RE: Tech: Font change From: mandoleer Date: 28 May 05 - 06:10 PM This is weird. Two days I've been in typescript, then post this and now it's back to normal! I only use Explorer for one business site that won't work in Netscape 7.1 (I've always been a Netscape man). Thanks anyway, folks, and thanks to whichever of the gods is responsible for computing matters. Never worked out which one it should be... |

Subject: RE: Tech: Font change From: mandoleer Date: 28 May 05 - 06:22 PM Even weirder! This bit was OK, but the thread list was still in non-prop. Have just changed View - Character Coding from Japanese to Western. Only problem now is - how did it get to Japanese in the first place? Anyway - Times Roman where it should be all the way now. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Font change From: Bill D Date: 28 May 05 - 08:16 PM Deus ex machina sometimes the PC does things...I have little quirks now & then which simply don't 'seem' to have a cause. Right now, I have to open Firefox browser twice to get its toolbars and settings....otherwise it is a blank page. This is a new trick...once I have closed it and reopened it, it is fine. |
