He has been ill for quite a few years and last week suffered another stroke and a suspected heart attack. But, like the trooper he always has been, he is still kicking !! He is presently in a convalescent facility and expects to be there for a bit. He has a tremendous website - www.travisedmonson.com that will bring you up to date. Bud and Travis had no equal in their genre and I will never forget the four time I saw them perform. |

Subject: RE: In my CD player right now From: GUEST,Dale Date: 06 Jun 05 - 12:53 PM Well, old guy, you are making it difficult on my brain. 8 track? Hmmmm. Let me see. Last time I had it out ~~ a couple of years ago, I was listening to Ian & Sylvia. Not sure which one. I had several. LP? Ballads and Bluegrass by Walter Forbes was the last lp on the turntable. That was a couple of months ago. Now I can listen to it on the computer. Cassette? A Christmas Carol by The Forester Sisters. I rather suspect I must have listened to that back in December. Gramophone? Unfortunately, that has been gone since about 1956. I still regret its passing, though. There is a good chance that among the last things played on it would have been any number of Bob Wills tunes or John McCormack's Keep The Home Fires Burning. And now, to bring things up to the present ~~ The CD Player? Out Of The Blue, outstanding young/oldtime group from Arkansas. Actually, they are 46, but that is for three of them. The Computer? This varies from day to day, even hour to hour, but most recent extended listening has been to The Dead Ringer Band, Bill, Diane, Kasey & Nash Chambers ~~ as good as country gets in this day and age. |

Subject: RE: In my CD player right now From: Bard Judith Date: 02 Nov 05 - 01:59 AM In the player right now, huh? Yes, and pretty much continuously for the last two weeks... "Da Hertzog Jorg Hochzeit Hett" - by the Landshuter Hofkapelle, performed in Landshut, Germany for the medieval wedding reenactment known as the Landshuter Hochzeit 1475. The songs are from around 1350 to about the 1500s, most grouped as they would have been known at the time of the wedding. A couple of my favorites: Venite a laudare - Laudario di Cortona, 13th C Un cavalier di Spagna - Anon., 15th C Rodrigo Martines - Anon, 1500 and my absolute passion, which I heard sung live by the tenor who performs it on this CD... Ich het czu hannt geloket mir - Monch von Salzburg, 1350-1400 (just discovered there are actually a number of recordings of this piece if you do a Google on the title as I have it above - even one available from Amazon. I got mine in person at the reenactment in Landshut this summer by a stroke of very good fortune and some amazing generosity... ) |

Subject: RE: In my CD player right now From: alanabit Date: 26 Nov 05 - 05:06 AM I am listening to a couple of Mudcatters. There are five fine albums by Seamus Kennedy, doing a lot of traditional Irish songs and other songs, which tell good stories. Spotless singing all the way through. There is Reggie Miles bluesy and witty "Freshly Picked". Some fine, uncluttered playing too. George Papavgeris's brilliant "Ordinary Heroes" is never likely to be far away from the CD player either over the coming months. "Empty Handed" is one of the greatest songs of our age and "Memories" is not a lot worse. Who needs record shops? |

Subject: RE: In my CD player right now From: pdq Date: 26 Nov 05 - 08:40 PM A short time back I ordered Suzy Thompson's new CD "Stop & Listen" from an online dealer. It arrived the day after she posted to the "OBIT: Fritz Richmond thread". Have to say this is a great effort by her. It is old time-bluesy and a lot of fun. Anyone who likes jug band music should check this out. Although it is not technically that category, it has a similar warm feel. Also, her hubby Eric Thompson is always great on guitar. |
