Sing De Chorus, Calypsos from Trinidad & Tobago
The CD is a recreation of 1930s' calypsos in the style of the original singers. I am not sure it is still available, as it was issued in 1992.

Lesblank, you da man! I love that concert. Although I did not see that concert, I saw them at Royce Hall, UCLA, a few months later. Bud has been gone about twenty years, but I believe Travis is still alive.

John on the Sunset Coast __:

Travis is still very much alive, although he is in need of constant attention these days. He has been ill for quite a few years and last week suffered another stroke and a suspected heart attack. But, like the trooper he always has been, he is still kicking !! He is presently in a convalescent facility and expects to be there for a bit. He has a tremendous website - www.travisedmonson.com that will bring you up to date. Bud and Travis had no equal in their genre and I will never forget the four time I saw them perform.

In my Cd player is currently:
Seth Lakeman - Kitty Jay <----Bloody good album, highly recomended!
Idlewild - Warnings/Promises
James Blunt - Back to Bedlam

In the Cd player in the kitchen of my family home is Tanglefoot - Full Throated Abandon
The sister's bedroom across from me has some album by Greenday
The sister's bedroom above me is sporting A Cinderella Story Soundtrack

I know all of this because my sisters are teenagers and my bedroom is the other side of the wall to the kitchen which is where my Mum usually listens to music!

Well, old guy, you are making it difficult on my brain.

8 track? Hmmmm. Let me see. Last time I had it out ~~ a couple of years ago, I was listening to Ian & Sylvia. Not sure which one. I had several.

LP? Ballads and Bluegrass by Walter Forbes was the last lp on the turntable. That was a couple of months ago. Now I can listen to it on the computer.

Cassette? A Christmas Carol by The Forester Sisters. I rather suspect I must have listened to that back in December.

Gramophone? Unfortunately, that has been gone since about 1956. I still regret its passing, though. There is a good chance that among the last things played on it would have been any number of Bob Wills tunes or John McCormack's Keep The Home Fires Burning.

And now, to bring things up to the present ~~

The CD Player? Out Of The Blue, outstanding young/oldtime group from Arkansas. Actually, they are 46, but that is for three of them.

The Computer? This varies from day to day, even hour to hour, but most recent extended listening has been to The Dead Ringer Band, Bill, Diane, Kasey & Nash Chambers ~~ as good as country gets in this day and age.

In the player right now, huh? Yes, and pretty much continuously for the last two weeks...

"Da Hertzog Jorg Hochzeit Hett" - by the Landshuter Hofkapelle, performed in Landshut, Germany for the medieval wedding reenactment known as the Landshuter Hochzeit 1475.

The songs are from around 1350 to about the 1500s, most grouped as they would have been known at the time of the wedding. A couple of my favorites:

Venite a laudare - Laudario di Cortona, 13th C

Un cavalier di Spagna - Anon., 15th C

Rodrigo Martines - Anon, 1500

and my absolute passion, which I heard sung live by the tenor who performs it on this CD...

Ich het czu hannt geloket mir - Monch von Salzburg, 1350-1400 (just discovered there are actually a number of recordings of this piece if you do a Google on the title as I have it above - even one available from Amazon. I got mine in person at the reenactment in Landshut this summer by a stroke of very good fortune and some amazing generosity... )

I am listening to a couple of Mudcatters. There are five fine albums by Seamus Kennedy, doing a lot of traditional Irish songs and other songs, which tell good stories. Spotless singing all the way through.
There is Reggie Miles bluesy and witty "Freshly Picked". Some fine, uncluttered playing too.
George Papavgeris's brilliant "Ordinary Heroes" is never likely to be far away from the CD player either over the coming months. "Empty Handed" is one of the greatest songs of our age and "Memories" is not a lot worse.
Who needs record shops?

Nothing right now, but most recently Jeff Warner's "Jolly Tinker". Great minds think alike Kendall.

I usually listen to my Ipod on random play, but yesterday I had it set to particular albums. I was listening to El Greko's "Ordinary Heroes" and Odetta, Best of the Vanguard Years.

I've gotten completely addicted to Dylan's "World Gone Wrong." I got it out from the public library. It's overdue now, but I won't give it back until I purchase my own copy of it somewhere.

A short time back I ordered Suzy Thompson's new CD "Stop & Listen" from an online dealer. It arrived the day after she posted to the "OBIT: Fritz Richmond thread". Have to say this is a great effort by her. It is old time-bluesy and a lot of fun. Anyone who likes jug band music should check this out. Although it is not technically that category, it has a similar warm feel. Also, her hubby Eric Thompson is always great on guitar.

C Ham - Where did you find that little gem. I'm a fan of all of those artists. I'd like to track that down myself.

Currently I'm listening to Johnny Cash "Personal File" - some solo recordings from the 70's. Just Johnny and his guitar. Also "North of the Border" by mandolin player John Reichman. And some Lightin' Hopkins.

It's Volume 7 in a series called "The Bluesville Years" that came out about 10 years ago on Prestige/Fantasy.

A special recording by Helen Bennett of some of her songs.
She plays the piano and sings like an angel.
Helen is in The WIld Wolds Women and Helian Keys.
But when she does solo materiel she is bloomin great.

Gram Parsons and Steve Earle are jamming with Ray Charles and Mahalia Jackson. I bet you wish you had a CD player that accomodated that kind of jazz.

Regards.

Sidewinder.

Have to go now; Stevie Wonders just dropped in.
