Thursday-Hull City Hall, tickets =20 quid.

I,m nt ging, as I,m going to see Weelittledrummer at The Marlborough Club, Newstead Street instead.
Newstead Street is off Chanterlands Avenue, near the KC Stadium, entry is free, and it will be really nice, ie support acts includinf Harri Watts Band, and that blues bloke from Cottingham.
And there will be free cakes and jelly and ice cream*

*=see below for terms and conditions.

Really smalll riting= there wont really be any jelly and ice cream, i just put that so folk will go to my flok club.
but it will be good anyway, so make sure you go.

Years ago I was on the same record label as Roger in Germany. Obviously he was a big star, I was a one hit wonder.

I remember the record company guy said, we had that Roger whittaker here last week - my God, can that guy party! He NEVER stops.....!

Which was strangely at variance with his public persona at the time, all rocking chairs and wooly jumpers. Ever since then I've had a grudging respect for the mexican Whistler.

And now our paths cross again. As Kurt Vonnegut says it's not a coincidence, it's a grand faloon!

all the best

Big Al Whittle

Any truth in the rumour he's opening his gig with the line: "I had that Rt Hon Sir jOhn from HUll in the front of my cab today"?

There's a curry ship all ready in the harbor
Tonight across all Hull she sails
Far away from your land of chips and butties
To a land full of burning heat and ale
And I shall eat aboard that ship tomorrow...

At first I thought this was "Roger Whittaker in Hell" which doesn't sound right; surely such a nice guy who whistles and wears cardigans couldn't go to hell, unless God has a wicked sense of humour?

But in the Dalesman's Litany isn't there a line "From Hull and Halifax and Hell, Good Lord deliver me"; hence Hull and Hell are obviously not too far apart. If anyone from Hull claims that "No, Hull is actually Heaven", then this presumably means that Halifax is purgatory.

As Mike Harding used to say: "When I was a young (Catholic) kid the priests used to say: "Do you reject the Devil and all his Works?" so often that I started to imagine that the devil had a whole lot of big smoky factories where he used to inflict horrible torments on people. Then I grew up and started to work in real factories and realised that this was all more or less true."

Another religious joke:

Bishop to young Catholic Boy during confirmation ceremony: "Can you tell me what Holy Matrimony is?"
Boy: "It is a place of prolonged but temporary suffering where sinners are purified for eternal life in heaven."
Priest: "You little fool, that's the answer for Purgatory."
Bishop: "Hush, Father, for all we know the boy may be right."

Actually I grew up on hairy bearded protest singers like Roger Whittaker, Rolf Harris, Nana Mouskouri, etc. Remember hard-hitting protest songs like "Tie me Kangaroo Down, Sport" and "Have you got a Light, Boy" with their outspoken attacks on animal cruelty and the tobacco industry?
