Hi,
I'm looking for the names and addresses of suitable radio stations to send a promo cd to in US. (It's a big place I know, but ye gotta start somewhere!). PM's are welcome also.

This thread is most helpful.

Also, there are many others on Mudcat. If you put "radio" in the filter, and set the date to "all" you'll see a long list, many of which can be helpful.

Then, go to FOLK DJ and read through their posts. They are a wealth of info on what stations/shows are currently active - and who is playing what sort of music.

And remember; asking "how do I select radio stations to send my music?" is a bit like asking, "how does mathematics work?" We can give you some answers, but until you roll up your sleeves and practice it in your own world - you won;t get anything out of it.

Consider this ansewr (and others) a Mathematics text book.

... all the best!

My favorite radio station, WWOZ in New Orleans, specializes in local roots/traditional music, which is NOT the same as "folk music" in the generally accepted sense, and which is also not necessarily acoustic.

HOWEVER: There are a few individual shows that might be appropriate for your material:

Saturday 10-11:30 am: Sean O'Meara, "Music in the Glen" (Irish/Celtic)

Sunday 10-11:30 am: Hazel the Delta Rambler, Old Time Country & Bluegrass

Sunday 2:30-4 pm: Your Cousin Dimitri, Acoustic Blues

Each of these specialized program has its own seriously devoted "niche" audience, and since the station is webcast, there are listeners all over the world. To contact any of these DJs, go to this schedule page on the station's website, find the desired program on the schedule gird, and just click on the show-host's name to send an email.

Good station, PapaaGator; I second that!

I'll be back to NO in July ... I know, I know NO in July, what am I crazy?

I used to Semaus Kennedy that only an Irishman books a tour in Alaska in winter - by that same arguement I'd have to admit that my Irish blood is bringing me back to New Orleans for two of heat heat heat in July, again this year!

I'll try to hook up with Sean this time. I hope to see you.

Jed, looks like your brain is already starting to fry in anticipation.

New Orleans in the summer is not a very hospitable environment for us ultrawhite northern European types. God only knows how the Irish immigrants survived in the days before air conditioning!

... must have been the beer, ale and whiskey ... they don;t cool ya off, but they do tend to let you forget about about your discomforts.

OK - now I guess we've wandered seriously into the realm of thread creep!

Doesn't anyone have any radio stations to recommend for poor Deskjet? I know that there a few Mudcat members who host radio programs ~ where are you when somebody needs you?

Jed and I really might as well be swapping PMs at this point. I might ask him the exact dates for hsi performances, and the venue (which I'm pretty sure I know), but I'll just check his website sometime before the end of the month.

And this visit, we're really going to try hard to introduce Jed to radio host Sean O'Meara and to get them on the air (and on the Internet) together. Jed came to the studio and played a few numbers one Saturday morning in March ~ it was St. Patrick's Weekend and parade day in New Orleans, and was also during the WWOZ spring pledge drive ~ but Sean was absent from his own program, so they still haven't yet met.
