Especially with Bawdy songs - you can't err by being TOO old - just need to make sure they predate the end of your time period. |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Have any info on bawdy songs bef.1870? From: John M. Date: 03 Jun 05 - 02:23 PM There is very little bawdy song material from the time you specify. The Rakish Rhymer was printed during the US Civil War. The 1917 reprint of this book is on my website here. There are several bawdy songsters at the Kinsey Institue and in the British Museum Library (private case) from the 1840s-1860s. I may be able to dig out the microfilm link for you in a bit for copies of some of the Private Case songsters. I have one 1802 bawdy songbook titled The Frisky Songster which I have just acquired (download here 7MB). Sorry I can't help more. Sincerely, John Mehlberg ~ My, mostly traditional, bawdy songs, toasts and recitations website: www.immortalia.com |
