Subject: RE: BS: Tainted love From: George Papavgeris Date: 04 Jun 05 - 05:32 PM Thanks for all the positive comments, folks. Good news: YES! I got a tune for it, and I am rather chuffed with it because I think it really suits it, it tests the vocal chords enough to make it fun and it can be sung unaccompanied too. I also changed the lyrics a little to help them scan better (Liz, I already have one called "Contradictions" so I'll stay with Traitor's Love for now). Amended lyrics: THE TRAITOR'S LOVE George Papavgeris, June 2005 I am a patriot, the traitor said I love my country and won't hear a word against it It is the best and we all know that God has blessed it If you think different, you're an enemy of mine. I am a patriot, the patriot said I love my country just like you and I can prove it: But it has faults, and all I want is to improve it. And I'll put life and reputation on the line. You are a traitor, the traitor said You're finding faults where there are none, like a magician To all my country means to me, you're opposition You rock the boat and then you brag that you know best. I am a patriot, the patriot said Love that can see no fault is love only in letter I see them, but I care enough to make them better And all my life and actions this they will attest. You are a traitor, the traitor said A liar too, because my love you just offended It is high time that your subversive acts were ended So from this moment pal, you are under arrest. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tainted love From: Bunnahabhain Date: 04 Jun 05 - 03:38 AM What a wonderful poem. It will need the right tune to make it any better. Tainted love: This is a 1964 song by Soul singer Gloria Jones. I ashamed to say I only knew of it via the 80's cover by softcell |
Subject: RE: BS: Tainted love From: podman Date: 04 Jun 05 - 01:05 AM Ebbie: "Tainted Love" which I think was a reworked blues number, or so I was told. "John Wayne Is Big Legge" was from "Haysi Fantaysee" a boy-girl pop group which was a two or three hit wonder. Some of those songs didn't make it to the States. Euro Pop is quite distinct from our stuff. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tainted love From: Ebbie Date: 03 Jun 05 - 07:42 PM So which one is the 'Great Great' song, robo? The 'John Wayne is Big Legge' sounds esoteric and enigmatic enough to qualify as Great. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tainted love From: robomatic Date: 03 Jun 05 - 07:31 PM Great Great Song. I was peddling my bicycle up the West Coast of Ireland listening to two radio channels on my brand new walkman. One channel played Irish Traditional. The other channel played one of four songs: Tainted Love, The Envoy, I Eat Cannibal, John Wayne Is Big Legge. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tainted love From: Clinton Hammond Date: 03 Jun 05 - 06:55 PM Ain't that "The Living End"? "Tainted Love" Well sometimes I feel I've got to Runaway I've got to Get away From the pain you driving to love me The love we shared Seemed to go no where And I lost my life For I toss and turn I can't sleep at night Once I ran to you Now I run from you This tainted love you've given I give you all a boy can give you Take my tears and thats not nearly all! Well sometimes I feel I've got to Runaway I've got to Get away From the pain you driving to love me The love we shared Seemed to go no where And I lost my life For I toss and turn I can't sleep at night Once I ran to you Now I run from you This tainted love you've given I give you all a boy can give you Take my tears and thats not nearly all! Tainted Love (whoaoh) Tainted Love Now I know I've got to Runaway I've got to Get away You don't really want anymore from me To make things right You need someone to hold you tight And they say love is to play Well I'm sorry I don't play that way Once I ran to you Now I run from you This tainted love you've given I give you all a boy can give you Take my tears and thats not nearly all! Tainted love (whoaoh) Tainted love (Alright!) Don't touch me please I cannot stand the way you tease And I love you though you hurt me so So I'm gonna pack my things and go The love we shared Seemed to go no where And I lost my life For I toss and turn I can't sleep at night Once I ran to you Now I run from you This tainted love you've given I give you all a boy can give you Take my tears and thats not nearly all! Tainted Love (whoaoh) Tainted Love (whoaoh) Tainted Love (whoaoh) Tainted Love |

Subject: BS: Tainted love From: George Papavgeris Date: 03 Jun 05 - 06:45 PM The constant bickering about this and that in politics around the globe has led me to write something. It's just a poem for now, though I expect that by tomorrow it may well have a tune to it. It is not meant to depict the situation in any one country - I have seen equivalent signs in every country I have lived (three) and most countries I visited (18). But I expect people will see themselves in it and want to argue, so to save time I moved it to BS section from the start. Please criticise/judge. TAINTED LOVE I am a patriot, said the traitor I love my country and won't hear a word against it It is the best and we all know that God has blessed it If you think different, you're enemy of mine. I am a patriot, said the patriot I love my country just like you and I can prove it: But it has faults, and all I want is to improve it. And I'll put life and reputation on the line. You are a traitor, said the traitor You're finding faults where there are none, like a magician To all my country means to me, you're opposition You rock the boat and you think you know best. I am a patriot, said the patriot Love that can see no fault is love only in letter I see them, but I care enough to make them better And all my life and actions this fact will attest. You are a traitor, said the traitor A liar too, because my love you just offended It is high time that your subversive acts were ended So from this moment pal, you are under arrest.
