Hah! I CAN come on the 2nd and the boss is pretty sure I can have the evening of the 30th off as well. Is it any wonder why I am loathe to leave the park I'm at and go elsewhere?

I am so glad, Tami. The Lobster Boil is "shaping up" and it just wouldn't be fair for you to miss it. Note to others: there is a real chance I will run out of beds for the July 30th Song Circle. Get your reservations in as soon as you know you will be coming...or bring a sleeping bag.

Sinsull-

Thanks for hosting another great song circle!

Are there any survivors? When we left around midnight Tom, Linn and KathW were still swapping songs, and the strawberry topped cheesecake had withstood vigorous assaults but there were still 3 pieces left.

I thought everyone was in good form but I have to admit that I really enjoy Jets' stories, whether he's describing his maritime experiences which began as a young teenager in the closing year of WW II or the horrors of being the only accordian player at a bluegrass picking party. KathW as one might expect has an incredible repertoire of songs and a wonderful voice. BobBi looked like she was enjoying herself, curled up with her autoharp in her lap. And Brian resurrected at least two "traditional" songs that he had composed. Nor and Eli led another wonderful rendition of "Mollymauk" and several non-nautical songs which I generally don't get to hear including "The Housewife." JudyB did a great job with Les Barker's "My Husband Has No Porridge In Him" and followed it up with the somber "History Man." I badgered Linn into leading C. Fox Smith's "Race of Long Ago." And I believe it was Tom who led Bob Coltman's bicentenial anti-war song. Then there was a run of those attrocious wild west movie theme songs. Good lord!

The usual dogs and cats were there.

Today JudyB and myself are going to spend a quiet day recording a few more songs for my website and Monday we may even get to the beach.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

I did "Liberty Valance" and threatened "The Sons Of Katie Elder" but it never happened.

Jets' stories are wonderful. The impish grin he adds which leaves you wondering "Fact or Fiction?" make them even better.

The evening started with a phone call from katlaughing. The phone was passed from 'Catter to 'Catter for about an hour. She sounds great, like her old self, maybe even better. Kathy Westra singing under my roof - what a thrill!

Tami took the last of the cheesecake home; Linn and Tom got chocolate cake and half a watermelon. Everyone took some pizza rustica. I never got to try the turkey salad - next time. And wonder of wonders, no one cracked open the Jamison.

Brian just gets better and better. I hope there is a book in the works. It would be criminal for his songs to disappear. He is a brilliant songwriter.

Thanks to everyone for making the party happen. Did anyone get the lyrics to the "naughty" song that Bobbie's friend Chris sang? July 30th is the Lobster Boil. I will need to know by the tenth if you are joining us. But that will be anothe thread. Now to rest.

Well, nobody opened the Jameson's (Bushmills, actually). But we did polish off an entire bottle of 8-year-old Barbancourt rum from Haiti. We weren't teetotalin', folks! It was my great pleasure to introduce this particular vice to friends old and new.

Loved meeting and hearing the Song Circle regulars, and finally making good on my promise to enjoy Sinsull's wonderful hospitality at one of these events. Good singing all around, great food prepared by Herself (not to mention Charlie's homemade cheesecake and BatGoddess' no-calorie cream-cheese-scrambled eggs this morning), and good company. I got to trot out Bob Coltman's "Valley Forge," which I try to sing at least once around Independence Day. And I loved the chance to listen to some really good singers. A real treat. My only disappointment was that Kendall and Jacqui weren't among the group, although Seamus represented the family well.
Thanks again, Mary!!!
Kathy

I prolly have a recording of Chris's "naughty" song -- I think I got it before my tape recorder died..

What a treat to trade stories & poems with Jets! (again!)

I contributed S. Omar Barker's poem about rodeos after his rendition of what happened to the strawbery roan.

Thanks to Kath for introducing us to the Barbancourt rum -- picked up a bottle on the way home. (NH State Liquor Store -- cheaper than Kath got it) Really really nice. Why open the Bushmill's when there's something new and lovely to try.

Another really lovely evening of conversation, song and verse. What stories! And Tami added to my "stultifying inanities" collection -- stupid things that tourists say. (Look for the booklet; I've got to finally get it together -- the title will probably be "You Can't Get to Heaven If Your're Hit By a Tourist.")

Intense weekend, though -- nobody's yet started a thread about our loss of Norman MacDonald.

Well frankly I attended because I heard from Kendall that the food was good to excelant, which in truth, turned out to be the case. But I must confess that I throughly enjoyed the singing. I even enjoyed yet another sea chanty .
On thing I did want to clear up was that the year that I first went to sea ,was 1942 which was hardly the last year of WW2.

Well, the only downside to the weekend is I woke up this morning feeling like doggy doo -- beliee it or not, I've got a cold, although how I managed to get one for Fourth of July, I'll never know. (Maybe I SHOULD have been drinking the Bushmill's!!!)

By yesterday afternoon, I had sort of a sore throat from sinus drainage, so I should have figured it out. Ach!

Went to the reading of the Declaration of Independence (and preceding free breakfast and music) anyway, but felt lousy. Been resting (and intermitently napping) all day. Cannot under any circumstances take tomorrow off no matter how rotten I feel. And today I'm getting nothing accomplished but finishing reading "Tender at the Bone" by Ruth Reischl and probably starting "Comfort Me With Apples." I had really wanted to invite a few people over after the gathering this morning. Ah well.

I can only hope I sleep well tonight (thanks to store-brand Nyquil-like stuff) and feel better tomorrow.

Linn
