Welcome back folks... pull up a chair, move the cat out of it and take a seat....

Now sit back, chill out, grab a drinking vessel and have a tipple of your choice. Share.

Ah, that's better. There's nothing like a nice cosy pub, where you can sit and socialise after a hard day's surfing.

Mine's a pint of real ale please.

Hi folks, nice to see you all.

Don T.

(the answer is... a little Swarbrick grabs you by the hand firmly and says, 'mine's a pint'!)

Don - you're welcome, just don't wipe your feet on the cat.

I'm snuggled into my corner with a pint and a kitten, the former being larger than the latter; and some sewing..... bliss!

Wouldn't dream of it, Liz. I've two cats myself, and tend to spend most of my leisure with one or the other curled up on my lap. Therapeutic, no end.

Yes, I thought the new crisp white paintwork with the burnt chicken motif was rather fetching.... I may rethink the shag pile though..... there are some sheep outside looking furtive.

Bert's card still good?

Make mine a dark Mexican beer. Negra Modelo will work for me.

Some night, eh? I don't usually drink beer at 7 in the morning.

A dog rushes in, wagging and wiggling, and approaches all of the cats, who spit and turn and leave.

Sorry about that. She's new, but she loves 'em. I'll try to keep her from swinging from the rafters.

The wandering minstrel staggers in with a barrel. He sets it up right, It is the sort of barrel to last about twelve hours. It is the sort of barrel that has an irrelevant height. He proceeds to dispense a fine dark mild from it.

Just watch out, Art--she has industrial strength slobber. Look at that poor cat she licked--it's like she has gel or mousse in her fur with it all standing up in waves that way. Here, have a handy-wipe for just in case.

I agree, it IS afternoon somewhere. And I'll try some of that fine dark mild.

Guinness coming up for you, Terry.

I did keep some of it aside for the Beef and Guinness pies that are being made, even as we speak - mmmmmmmm, what an aroma!

The shag pile sounds tempting - maybe after I've eaten...

Art - there is a fully kosher kitchen (actually two!) available out back- But I stay out of it as I don't know all the rules...*grin*. but the regular kitchen caters to us goyim.

I feel a song coming on......

There's a tavern in the town where I mean to settle down
Where the grub and liquor always really swell,
Organised by Liz the Squeak since the middle of this week
It's that Little Mudcat Nouveau where I dwell

Well the first night I was there was a night beyond compare,
Every one had come to party, you could tell,
And the shag-pile on the floor just kept growing more and more
At the Little Mudcat Nouveau where I dwell.

Well the chicken on the raft was drinking pints of draught,
And the eggs were growing legs I have to tell
And the lobster thermidors were attacking lady's drawers,
At the Little Mudcat Nouveau where I dwell.

Well a new Bartender came, and Jack Daniels was his name,
He was serving all the ladies at great speed,
Some guy muttered with a snicker,'Does that mean he's a hard liquor?'
And several girls immediately agreed

Well the sheep were running wild and the cats were getting riled,
'Cos The Sages dog was running round as well,
And the queue outside the door it went on for evermore,
At the Little Mudcat Nouveau where I dwell.

I really must break myself of the habit, better go now.....

Carpet, I believe, is either shag or pile. So whatever "shag pile" might exist in this virtual space must be something else again, probably a very interesting development indeed.

Gimme a big pint glass, a bucket of ice, a bottle of Black Bush, and a six-pack of good strong Jamaican ginger beer ~ I'll mix my own drinks. And not every drink will necessarily be mixed; I'll probably start with a shot or two neat, just to get primed and ready.

Jacqui, the dogs didn't go missing--they're out in the tavern yard playing in the sprinkler. That looks good.

Sage walks out the Texas door with beer in hand, picks up a plastic lawn chair and takes it over to the edge of the spray from the sprinkler. Toes extended into the cool water attract the attention of romping dogs, who pause to offer a friendly toe-nibble and to receive a scratch behind the ear before resuming play.

Giok has either reacted badly to the "sick-squid" joke or, like me, is having a flashback of Andy Stewart on the "White Heather Club" new-years-eve special, elbows out, cheeky grin and a sly wink to camera!!

Or maybe there really is a hole in his glass of Highland Park.

I'll have what he's having!

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH indeed, and I'm not even a Scot.

DIET PEPSI with a malt whisky NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
Put what you like in a blended whisky, but there are only two things to put in a malt whisky, one is more whisky, and the other is pure Scottish water, about the same amount again as the whisky. You cannot possibly appreciate the taste of a decent malt if you adulterate it with any other additive, especially sugary soft drinks.
Barman pass me the Sal Volatile please.

My friend Alice was out here the first week in May and she brought me Knob Creek bourbon and a bottle of Scotch somebody gave her -- she don't drink that stuff. Something called...hell, I never heard of it afore...Bowmore. From Islay. I ain't had the guts ta open it yet. And I will drink that like I drink the Knob Creek, the 16 year old Bushmills, the 10 year old Bushmills, and any other GOOD whiskey or whisky -- neat, or with a small dollop of crystal water.

Or maybe with cherry Kool-aid. I dunno.)

The sculptor was the then owner of the house who she remembers as a German man named Hans. The statue was made in the late 30's or early fourties is her recollection. (But then again she hadn't even been dreamed of yet.) The woman said she would come back with photos taken during a party in the back yard. Hopefully I can get more information then. I love to find out about the speakeasy.

Two fingers of fine scotch please while I put up my feet and hear the faint strains of old blules drift up from the basement. Check those fiddle cases as they come in the door okay. Musicians only.

Bowmore whiskey from Islay (pronounced eye-lah by the way) is among my favorites. Its characteristics are smokey, peaty, iodiney and slightly carbolic with the tang of the salt air coming in off the Atlantic.

Is it 12 or 15 years old ?

I used to indulge in the 12 year old as it was all I could afford, and only on occasion. The price here has now gone beyond my range ($50 cdn).It can be had in Vermont for $18 U.S. and I enjoy it on my yearly trip down.

Drink it with a splash of good spring water and you'll be transported to the rugged wind-whipped shores of Scotland.

Bobad - as far as I'm concerned ~ ALL malt whiskeys are carbolics... I'm far more interested in a drop of Ba'jan's finest (that's Barbadian to you), mixed tall with some lime juice, enough ice to put polar bears on and full fat coca cola..... I'm one of these people who CAN tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi....

Mmmm.. this is baad... it's not even 8.00am on a Sunday morning and I've got a hankering for a tall R&C....

Not generally a spirit drinker myself, but el_punkoid_nouveau and I went to a tasting of bourbons and they were wonderful..we ended up buying a bottle of Fighting Cock and it's the only spirit (apart, perhaps from Navy rum) that I can drink straight...and do.....often.....

Diet anything is a no-no....added synthetic sweetners, which all diet drinks contain, are a REALLY bad idea. You wait and remember my words...in another year or two it will be all the headlines etc that sweetners are terrible for you and do all sorts of horrible damamge. If you MUST drink non-alcoholic, the best thing is either water, or water with a squeeze of lemone juice, preferably with ice.

Now...back to the brandy alexanders..(Hmmm, there's a thought...wonder what a bourbon alexander is like?)...what are we singing at the moment?

He treads upon rainbows and smells like a rose.

Found only by those with the truest intentions.

He lives where the mermaids sit combing their locks.
He hangs out with centaurs and large purple rocs.
He hobnobs with goblins and polkadot gryphons,
With ethical lawyers and clean politicians.

But most people think he's a legend, it seems:
An empty extension of childhood dreams.

(checking to see that only adults are present...)

OK, here it is. I found this in my vast ( half-vast?) collection of reference and science fiction...

Original:

The mountaineers have hairy ears,
They go without their britches,
They pop their cocks with jagged rocks,
They're hardy sons of bitches.

They screw the whores right through their drawers,
They do not care for trifles-
They hang their balls upon the walls
And shoot at them with rifles.

Much joy they reap by didling sheep
In divers nooks and ditches.
Nor give they a damn if it be a ram-
They're hardy sons of bitches.

Variations are "The Engineers have..." , "The Canoneers have...", and the sci-fi "The Rocketeers have..."

There is supposed to be another verse. Anybody know it?

The rocketeers are in a circa 1950 story by Keith Bennett. No banjos, I am afraid...

All of the song that is printed is

"The Rocketeers have shaggy ears,
They're dirty-"

I suppose we could make a new verse with the banjos in it....

Seems a DJ was interviewing a "glamour" model and said on air that he'd leave his wife and kids for her. His wife was listening and immediately put his £15,000 Porsche up for sale on Ebay, and used the 'Buy now for 50p' option with the message 'Must sell in the next couple of hours before my husband comes home and finds his belongings out on the street'....

Well I've just come back from a trip to the west coast [of Scotland where else?] This included a trip to Skye where it rained hard and heavy for the whole day, so to console myself I went for a guide tour round the Talisker distillery. Unfortunately the dram they gave us to try the nectar was too small, so barkeep please pour me a very large Talisker with a drop of Skye rain in it at room temperature, just to bring out the flavour.

It's the pain of the sprain, and the thought of the rain, combined with the impelling of the pencil that's propelling.
So there really is no telling if the pencil that's propelling has lead us to the waning of the wrist that is spraining.
So sing us the song of the sling Rummo dear, while from Lizzie her black graphite tale we will hear.
And while you're at it dearie, will you answer that old query;
HOW LONG IS A PIECE OF SLING?

Time for my pills.

Do any of the Mudcat Tavern doors open on a nice saltwater beach somewhere? That might be a nice destination after I cool off. I bet the squid can direct me to a good beach. Where'd he get to? He's not really in that meatloaf Liz is eating, is he?

Stilly, if you look to the west (that's a little to the right of the shrunken heads and between the faux fawns), there's a little brass catch disguised as a window catch.... flip that and it'll open out to reveal the sunset in all it's glory.

He was supposed to fold the fabric of space-time so that I could have lunch with Rapaire in Idaho without having to go through Atlanta, but he folded it the wrong way and sent Rapaire to Antarctica.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I really need to get to that door.

Heck, Liz, do what everybody in Atlanta did when the Olympics were there a few years back. Schedule your vacation (that's holiday to you, dear) to coincide with the Olympics. Here's another verse, I'll post all this somewhere one day

Folk singers meeting in pubs do it,
Morris dancers with their clubs do it,
Lets do it, lets fall in love,
The banjo pluckers, I'm sure do it
Bodhran bashers by the score do it,
Lets do it, lets fall in love
Floor singers not on the list do it, they're so eager to please,
Accordianists do it, with their favourite squeeze
Song writers all, you'll agree do it
Even parodists like me do it
Lets do it, lets fall in love!

To quote the late, lamented Bob Copper, 'Gi'e the old beggar some beer'
