Subject: Martin Guitar and Tommy Smothers From: thespionage Date: 16 Jun 05 - 02:31 PM I noticed that Tommy Smothers played a sunburst Martin. Which Martin was, or is, that? Russ |
Subject: RE: Martin Guitar and Tommy Smothers From: PoppaGator Date: 16 Jun 05 - 03:33 PM They're relatively rare. An acquaintance of mine has the only one I ever noticed, which prompted me to ask about 'em on this forum a couple of months back. Someone answered, citing model numbers and years, etc. ~ there is a 2005 Mudcat thread about this if you can find it... |
Subject: RE: Martin Guitar and Tommy Smothers From: Alaska Mike Date: 16 Jun 05 - 08:31 PM When I toured the Martin plant in Nazareth, PA in fall of 2003, I met a lady from New York who was picking up her brand new "Sunburst" painted J-40 model Martin. Since I play a J-40 myself, she kindly let me look at it while she strummed it a couple times. It was quite pretty both in looks and sound. I wonder why she wouldn't let me hold it? Hmmm. Mike |
Subject: RE: Martin Guitar and Tommy Smothers From: kendall Date: 16 Jun 05 - 09:47 PM Tommy used to play a Guild. I've seen three sunburst Martins but they are very rare. |
Subject: RE: Martin Guitar and Tommy Smothers From: thespionage Date: 18 Jun 05 - 12:40 AM Tommy did play a Guild, but he also played a Martin. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000063EI.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg (I thought it was sunburst.) Russ |
