Just a quick line to say thanks to all those who organised the Folk and Boat festival this year. It was a stunner! Sadly Bit on the Side had to leave for another festival on Saturday evening (diary cockup again!). I left to the sounds of Eddie Reader doing 'Find my Love' as I walked back to the car. Nice sendoff! We had a wonderful time in the Narrowboat session on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to all who came and sang/played, especially Vicki and Trefor Williams who hung in there after playing for two hours themselves. See you at the next one!
Tim from Bit on the Side

Missed you Tim. Sorry. I was far too busy listening to Anne Taggart and Angie Wright in the Golden Lion or at the Boars Head. Superb. It is no surprise that they have been guests at MFAB several times in the past. Anne's husband and daughter were great as well.

And hello to Reynard and Vixen. Hope you enjoyed yourselves. If you are still around and want more go to the Ship Victory in Chester on Tuesdays. You will have a good night as always.

I had a great weekend. Gigs went well, though we had to do a runner into the pub when our outdoor gig at Kings lock was inundated with rain.
There were some specaturly good gigs in the the main marquee...Eddie Reader was astonishingly well received by everyone I talked to, though I couldnt get to it myself. The Eliza Carthy and the Ratcatchers set on the Sunday night was absolutely extraordinary.

So glad people enjoyed it.It takes a lot of hard work by a small number of volunteers who are already preparing for next year
Thanks
Josher

Yes, it was an excellent festival.
I gather from previous threads on Mudcat that Josher is a personal friend of Andy Roscoe or has, at the very least, met him/listened to him over the last few years.
So please, Josher, pass on our thanks to Andy for his wonderful intro for the STPs and Les Barker on Sunday morning at the Boar's Head.
And, of course, for all his other sterling work over the weekend.
As far as the Salt Town Poets are concerned, it was all very enjoyable. We're grateful to everyone who came along to our Open Mike Night az the Boar's Head on Friday night, particularly Simon Cliff who is the second winner of the John Brunker Trophy.
We had another great afternoon/evening at the Golden Lion with friends old and new, including the one and only Monologue John, Alan Earl, Richard Faulkner, Mark Bailey and Guto Dafis. And special mention must go to the Miv Cameron Band, who were excellent.
We were also very privileged to meet a lady called Maureen Palin who wrote one of the best and most well-known poems about old-age and its problems and has never gained true recognition for it(more of this on Mudcat in due course).
I spent most of Saturday afternoon at the Cheshire Cheese with festival founder Richard Devaney, Graham Sivills of the Middlewich Paddies and former festival chairman Mike Hough listening to Rory Ellis and Calico Jack (among many others, all of them excellent).
The planning and running of a folk festival is not for the faint-hearted, as both Mike, Ian and myself know only too well, so congratulations to all concerned.
DGR

I've just realised that the word 'both' in the last sentence of my last post shouldn't be there. I wouldn't want the Grammar Police onto me again.
Something and nothing really, but it gets this thread back up the list a bit without recourse to the word 'refresh'.
Time for another lie down...

Oh, the breakfast! Ye gods! Thanks again, Tim and Geoff! No offence to any of the organisers or other performers but breakfast on saturday morning was assuredly the highlight of Middlewich for me! :)

I enjoyed it too, shame I & so many other boaters got bad insect bites, from which we're still suffering! Meant I couldn't get to the Martin Carthy/Ratcachers concert on Sunday, but otherwise had a thoroughly great time.
