I have been looking for the words to :"Heart of Midlothian". It is, of course, a Scottish folk song. Could anyone tell me the words?

There is a song called Heart of Lothian by a group called Marillion but they are a Scottish rock band and I doubt if it would be the right song but if you want the words to it just in case e-mail me

All the Best Mike

It's a novel by Sir Walter Scott. Did he perhaps write a poem, too?

Dear Mike,

Thank you for your suggestion. However, "Heart of Lothian" does not seem to be what I have been looking for. I have a CD which includes "The Heart of Midlothian" sung by Andy Stewart. I shall try to find some words, and write them on this forum.

With kindest regards

Teru

It is extremely difficult for me to follow all the words used in "Heart of Midlothian". Here are a few words I could get.

"In the capital of Scotland by the........royal mile....."

I think this song is a song of Edinburgh and must be a pride of the city.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you. Teru

Better late than never, that's my motto, I see you asked for this a year ago last month. That is a really good album isn't it? For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, it also includes Nae Sae Bad, By The Lochside, Kissin' In The Dark, My Hameland, Bonnie Lass O' Fyvie, Cailin Mo Ruin-Sa, The Road And The Miles To Dundee, That's The Reason Noo I Wear The Kilt,When You And I Were Young, Maggie, The Bonnie Lassie O' Dundee, and The Summer Road, That's from back in the days that I always placed the date on the back of my albums when I bought them, April 14, 1967.

I did a better job of translation than I thought I was going to do. The only part I am unsure of is the first line, kirk of St. Giles. Perhaps someone who knows the territory can correct me if I am wrong.

The Heart Of Midlothian
(Stewart-Grant)
as sung by Andy Stewart, on Capitol 10320 (mid 60s?)

In the capital of Scotland, by the great kirk of St. Giles
There lies a heart for all to see within the royal mile
Now many men have stood here from the humble to the grand
And it's known as the heart of Midlothian.

Chorus
It's a heart that's ever beating, it's a heart that's ever high
It's the pride of Scotland's glory, and it's fame will never die
On the spot within the royal mile with pride let Scotsmen stand
For here is the heart of Midlothian.

To the west there stands a castle famed in age old history
And to the east a palace fair and royal yet to see
While north, south, east, and west, you'll find you're in your native land
When you stand at the heart of Midlothian

Repeat Chorus twice

Dale

Thank you very much for your effort. They are really what I had been looking for. Andy Stewart was (and still is) one of my favourite Scottish singers (entertainers). I once saw and listend to him singing at Fairfield Hall, Croydon, Surrey, UK in 1984. I felt sad when he died.

Thanks again.

With my kindest regards

Teru (of Japan)

Heart of Midlothian is much more famous as a football team, currently in the final of the Scottish Cup. C'wae Hairts!
