Subject: RE: Woody Mann&Julie Ellison in Lincolnshire From: John Robinson (aka Cittern) Date: 05 Jul 05 - 08:21 PM Glad you enjoyed the gig John. We had a great time too. Pity you had to miss the second encore - but I understand work pressures. Julie's "Easy Goodbye" with Woody on lead guitar. Unrehearsed, unplanned (I don't think anyone had even told the sound man it was going to happen) and all the better for it. Wonderful stuff. Now WE MARCH ON NEWCASTLE ..... via Bishops's Stortford and Northwich ... who is this girl's tour manager? |
Subject: RE: Woody Mann&Julie Ellison in Lincolnshire From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 05 Jul 05 - 12:26 PM And what a night it was! Woody was stunning - wonderful musicianship, brilliant bluesy-jazzy guitar and that laid-back mellow voice. And what a great guy - so friendly with anyone who spoke to him. And as for Julie - she attacked it from the first chord, grabbed the punters by the throat and had them yelling for more. Fine guitar playing (not just 'good for a girl', but stoopendous by any standard) and singing that was of the highest quality. The best seven quid's worth I've had for a long, long time. Shame about the smoke, but you can't have everything! S:0) |

Subject: Woody Mann&Julie Ellison in Lincolnshire From: John Robinson (aka Cittern) Date: 21 Jun 05 - 04:45 PM Woody Mann with guest Julie Ellison The Lincoln Imp, Gloucester Ave, Scunthorpe, N Lincs DN16 2DN Monday 4th July 2005 Starting time: Doors open 8pm for 8:45 start Admission: £7 New York-based Woody Mann is a fantastic guitarist. He not only has great technique but he brings an incredible sense of adventure and creativity to his playing. "This is one of those names that should be uttered only in hushed tones. Not only was he taught by the peerless guitar picker the Rev Gary Davis, but Mann has played with Son House, Bukka White and John Fahey and has studied jazz under the great Lennie Tristano. In between giving lessons to Paul Simon and accompanying Dori Previn, he has also managed to cut some dazzling music, both by himself and in collaboration with performers such as Jo-Ann Kelly and bluesman John Cehpas. Don't miss a chance to see him; you are unlikely to hear anything- or anyone – better in the fields that Mann has chosen to master." – THE LONDON TIMES. Plus : Julie Ellison, described by Ralph McTell as "a terrific guitarist who also writes great songs". A great evening - not to be missed! |
