Subject: New Pete Seeger performance -Texas From: GUEST,Wesley S Date: 25 Jun 05 - 10:24 AM Imagine my suprise when I opened this mornings paper and saw that Pete Seeger was in town last night. The Unitarian Univerists were holding a national assembly here in Ft Worth Texas and they were entertained by Pete who belongs to a Unitarian church in New York. The paper says he performed quite a few of his better known songs for the croud - who - as you can imagine - sang along. They quoted Pete as saying that he's a lucky man. "I married a woman who has stuck with me for 62 years. We have 3 children and 7 grandchildren" "Also I'm lucky to live in a country where we have this grand tradition that you've got a right to speak you're mind - right or wrong" You go Pete !! At 12:45 today there will be a rally protesting the death penalty at the north end of the Tarrent County Convention Center. The paper didn't say if Pete would perform there or not. If I'm not mistaken Texas leads the country in executions and air pollution but we're at the bottom of the list when our schools are rated nationwide. |

Subject: RE: New Pete Segeer performance -Texas From: Suffet Date: 25 Jun 05 - 03:24 PM Greetings: Pete Seeger performed in New York City on May 21 in a benefit for the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. Other recent performances in New York include the Peoples' Voice Cafe last December, the Brooklyn High School of the Arts last January, and the Renaissance Charter School, also last January. The last two events were on behalf of the People's Music Network, an organization with which remains actively involved. The Peoples' Voice Cafe appearance, which was unannounced as his request, was part of their 25th anniversary celebration. I should add that earlier this month Pete, along with Sol "Roundman" Weber, led a workshop on rounds singing for the People's Music Network at Camp Epworth in High Falls, New York, about 100 miles north of the city. For someone who supposedly retired, Pete still gives quite a few performances, but they tend to be low keyed affiars rather than big splashy concerts. Almost always they are on behalf of an organization or movement he supports, or else they are for schools. Join the People's Music Network and come to its gatherings and you will not only get a chance to hear Pete, but you will also get a chance to interact with him as a fellow musician. And that's just one benefit of PMN membership. --- Steve |
