Hi
I will be in Hull at the end of July (Tues night) are there any folk clubs or sessions with good music on Tuesday nights?

Not far away - the Sun in Beverley (opposite Beverley Minster) 8 miles from Hull starts around 8.30 pm each Tuesday. Also if you have transport, same night, is an excellent session at the six bells at Barrow on Humber - over the Humber Bridge (£250 toll each way) - left through Barton on Humber - stright through town and about 1.5 miles to a roundabout, right, then down hill into Barrow - left at bottom of Hill - six bells on the right.

I will have transport - and a driver!! £250 each way seems a bit steep :)

It is a bit. Missed the . out. Its £2.50.   Sun Session starts as a learner session. Playing from music. Then round the room - join in if suitable. 6 Bells is more of a session. Mudcat "bloke in the Corner "runs it. Will send him an e-mail asking him to look at this thread. I go to the Sun but the 6 bells is good and more of a session.

No doubt about that, Eric old friend. If you want a session where we all join in if we can, mostly tunes but songs are permitted - preferably well-known ones - then come to Barrow Tuesday night. Welcome is warm, beer is cold and there is NO boss. I don't run it, the session is a truly anarchic one, governed only by the local musicians' impeccable sense of politeness and 'session etiquette'.
Try it Herge, you'll certainly like it.

I agree Bloke in Corner - its a great Session. I wish I could get more but got tied into the Sun at Beverley, which is also a good do but run more on folkie lines.

I gather its going well with new landlord which is good news.

Having met Herge at Portaferry , BE WARNED !! This man is a musician of no mean ability ! IF you can get him to one of your sessions he will NOT do it any harm at all !

Ah! Stupid me!! Just realised who Herge is!! Thanks for triggering the memory cells Leadfingers :-). I can certainly guarentee Herge will get a good welcome at either venue and in Barrow there is a good chance that both Skipjack and I will be there and possibly Kate so there should be some familiar faces from Portaferry. You are very welcome to borrow my Bass Guitar again Herge, I have even put some new strings on it for you!! ;-) I will PM you my phone number.

Gordon

Hi
Just back from my trip to Hull. I must say I really enjoyed the session at the six bells. Thanks for the welcome and I really would recommend it, it was nice to see young and old (ish) all enjoying the music together. Some nice tunes with excellent muscians. Good to see Basic and Skipjack again.
