So sad that he's dead, I will miss his corny jokes that only he could tell and his puns and his sense of fashion.

Fiddlin Sid - I remember Eric Pressley being on telly for getting a couple pregnant with his bladder. I would not have recalled that it was Richard Whiteley who interviewed him.
Richard will be missed, as will his jackets and ties.
Quack!
Geoff the Duck.

The"Twice Nightly Whiteley" tag was misinterpreted as having a sexual connotation, I can't think why.

God bless him for coming back with the rejoinder that it was more like "Once yearly . . . nearly".

Nice pome, Linda Kelly.

Very sad news. I don't think Countdown could continue without him. He was a genuinely nice man.

Some years ago Eric,a friend of mine and member of Wath Morris performed a solo morris jig on a yorkshire tv programme presented by Richard Whiteley. I think the story was that for some time a particularcouple had been unable to concieve until the day Eric danced a fertility jig for them and lo & behold - a baby on the way !Eric was nervous about his tv performance , but was put at ease and blown away by the kindness shown to him and his family and friends by Mr. Whiteley.
A Yorkshire institution - rest in peace.

Still in shock really, I can't believe it, especially as he was younger then me. An unusual man for a journalist, he had no pretensions, and a normal sized ego which is unusual in any TV personality. He will be sorely missed in this house. RIP Richard

Rest in peace Richard. A good Yorkshire lad.

I don't think he can be replaced. He was Countdown.

My favourite presenter and favourite TV show. Hopefully, the show won't be "dropped".   Any nominations for a successor to Richard's throne? Isn't it about time Carol got to sit down?

As we're within a few months of each other in age, a particular shock, if they keep the prog on they should move it back to 4.15 teabreak time. even we pensioners are busy at 3.45.

Countdown without Richard will never be the same. He will be a hard act to follow.

We shall miss him sorely.

I was only reading about him yesterday and how he had a heart operation.I don't think it has sunk in yet that such a loving fellah has gone.
R.I.P Richard.

part of my Television History in Yorkshire via Calendar and Countdown

Will be missed by many millions of people

ps Need a Yorkshire man to follow him!

The style is most certainly like cricket commentators, which i felt he would have liked to have taken up had he lived

I dont think it needs a clever comedian to succeed him!!

A gentleman & a scholar!

An oft used phrase, but in this case it was appropriate.

RIP

Sad news. He'd been ill with pneumonia and then had heart surgery.

A man with a pun for every occasion, but also remembered as a good journalist with an eye for a story on YTV's Calendar.

I blame the ferret!
