Oh sergeant etc.. ^^ I've a brother in Partick wi' long curly hair When I joined up he said I was daft He said shooting at strangers just wanna his game That brother of mine isna soft But I can put up with most things I've done in my time I can even put up with the pain But what do you do with a gun in your hand When you're facing a hundred odd wains Chorus repeating the last line twice. Cheers MIck |

Subject: RE: I'm Asking You Sargeant, Where's Mine? CD From: Mick Lowe Date: 29 Dec 98 - 09:26 PM Chantelle, I take it you have found what you are looking for or have just got bored with it? Mick |
Subject: RE: Lyrics needed for From: Zel- again Date: 28 Dec 98 - 08:42 PM As for the question about which army? At the time it was released on Billy Connoly's album "Cop Yer Whack For This", the troubles in Ireland were at it's height. Hence the reference to facing kids only armed with bricks and stones! But I suppose you could pick any fight in the world even today! Look at Palestine. Kids with stones and soldiers with guns. |
Subject: RE: Lyrics needed for From: Zel Date: 28 Dec 98 - 08:37 PM Well done Andreas! Those are the words! Only one criticism- in Scotland we would rhyme "saft" with daft - and not "soft"! In fact a lot of folks would use it in every day speech! But who's complaining? |
Subject: RE: I'm Asking You Sargeant, Where's Mine? CD From: Zel Date: 28 Dec 98 - 08:30 PM It is indeed on the "Cop Yer Whack" tape/vynil LP. I used to have it, in fact if I dug deep enough into the detritus of my life- I may still have it! Good luck anyway! |
Subject: RE: I'm Asking You Sargeant, Where's Mine? CD From: Mick Lowe Date: 28 Dec 98 - 08:14 PM The original recording of "Sergeant Where's Mine" was on Billy's "Cop Yer Whack For This".. long before the invention of cd's.. Recorded on Polydor ACB 00215. I believe through a reliable source that he has subsequently recorded this with the Dubliners which is something of a paradox, given the nature of the song... but just goes to show music can transcend any religious/political divide... It's a brilliant anti war song.. Chantelle..what exactly are you looking for.. to get the album or just a "taped" version of it.. I'd be more than happy to send you a copy.... Cheers Mick
