Any Mudcatters in Quebec?

Are there any Mudcatters online who live in Quebec? I'm looking for a recommendation for a total immersion Quebecois French language class.

I'm planning to attend Festival Memoire et Racines 29-31 July 2005 and would like to be able to converse better.

Hi Linda,
Skip the French immersion for this summer and enjoy yourself by comming to our "Branches and Roots Festival" in Ormstown July 29th,30th. and 31st. Haven't got around to learning how to do the blue clickey but if you type in www.ormstownfair.com you will get a good idea of what were about. Good to know another Que. as a member. Simon-pierre used to post and also joined us in PalTalk, once in awhile. Also, Banjo Bonnie is there, BUT she just left for a 6 week trek. Sorry this isn't more helpful.

You could go to Isle Verte in the St. Laurent river and ask for my Rog...his distant cousin of some sort is the mayor(?) of the only town on the island and has the same name...tell them we sent you and I bet you'd find some hospitality in total Quebecois! (Rog's younger brother who didn't learn as much of it when he was young as my Rog, visited there and could barely make out what was being said.**BG**)

Mike Reg... at radio McGill who hosts "Folk Roots Folk Branches" every Thursday is a member (or was) and posts once in a while.

Thanks for the information! I forgot to mention, I'm not from Quebec, but from Northern California. I met some Quebecois musicians when they came out here in mid '80s for tours - the original, traditional version of La Bottine Souriante and Lisa Ornstein, fantastic fiddler from the US who at that time lived in Quebec and toured with fantastic accordionist Denis Pepin.

I go to Quebec on an annual trip, every year since 1997. I have very little French but find that the people will converse in English as long as you do them the courtesy of speaking what little freanch you may have.

I just returned from Quebec on 12th July, and have planned another trip next July as well (2nd or 4th weekend). We stay in Cape-de-la-madeleine (Trois-Rivieres), but make side trips to Ste. Anne De Beaupre, Bromtonville, Magog, Quebec City and Charlesbourg. It is a beautiful province and I regret not having more French as it is a lovely language. Inside the walls of old Quebec the streets around Petite Champlain are very interesting, it has a real old European flavour. I may visit this winter if I can manage it, as it is even more beautiful when covered in snow.

My mother is 89 and lives in Saint Thomas Ontario. She often said to me that if you follow politics you should always watch Quebec. She also said that the two most colerful men in politics were Joey Smallwood and Rene Leveques(spelt wrong I think.) But Bob Dylan said it best.......politics? The Left hand of the Devil.
