I bought my kinkade from johnny in Bristol in 2005. he made it in 2004 as a prototype steel string in the style of a spanish guitar. its a stunning flamed maple back and sides with spruce top . It wasnt for sale, but i kept going round to johnny workshopp and playing it after my 'moon'guitar was stolen at Glastonbury festival. He eventually let m,e buy it and you can see a clip of me on youtube playing it..
Unfortuneately i was ill and unable to play in 2009, and though i play again now, i need a much smaller neck( guild m20)..so i am thinking my kinkade would be better off with someone else..

Yes seen that one on ebay, Ive already got a Martin dread or I would be interested. Ive owned many guitars through the years ( In search of the Holy Grail)But to my ears my Kinkade Kingsdown is the best sounding OM that Ive ever played.

There's one on ebay right now and I'm slavering over it but I REALLY cannot justify another guitar. If only I hadn't bought the LTD.

After buying and reading Jonny's book, and finding myself in the rare position of having a bit of spare cash, I ordered a Kingsdown deluxe cutaway with flame koa back & sides back in late 2007. The guitar was completed in late 2008 and shipped to me over here in sunny Florida. Like 'Peachy" above I will never part with this guitar, one of my kids will have to pry it from my cold dead hands! :) I've been playing (on and off) for over 35 years and have owned numerous Martin, Taylor, Gibson and other top brand instruments, and this guitar at least equals and in many cases surpasses any of them in tone, playablility, and quality materials/construction. To have the ability to acquire such a fine quality instrument, hand made to my exact specifications at such a reasonable price point was just incredible. If you are in the market for high end or custom built instrument, do yourself a favor and put Kinkade on your short list, you will not be dissappointed! Hi to all, I just completed making a Kinkade/OM Kingsdown replica from Jonny's book.
Fantastic guitar, even though I have not had the privelege of playing an original, the design is excellent. It packs a punch for a slim body guitar (non-dreadnaught) and has real rich mids.
Certainly a good starting point for anyone wanting to build a guitar.

Wilko's 'mid-sized cannon' sounds like a Kingsdown. I've got Kingsdowns from 1984 and 2006.

Raggy, I'm sure I've played your D4, a long time ago - possibly at Robin Hood's Bay? An absolute beaut, as I remember.

I have a 1987 Kingsdown model (#207). Now that it's approaching its 25th birthday it has a few dings but the soundboard just gets better each year and is a beautiful honey colour now.

It's signed by Jonny K's broither, Simon. It's such an assuming-looking guitar about OM-size. Very plain Jane but all the better for it.
I wouldn't sell it to anyone for ANY amount of cash. I've promised it to my son when I eventually go to the big gig in the sky............

I've still got mine, a bit battered and bruised these days after 16 years of constant use and it was second hand when I bought it. I wouldn't be parted from it, it's been tweaked a couple of times over the years and it still sounds superb.

I stumbled upon Kinkade while on tour in the UK last summer. In a small pub in Pensford--near Bristol--where they are made. I don't remember the model, but a woman in a group that was playing there had one. She was really happy with it and showed it to me. That thing was a mid-sized model that was a cannon. Really loud and responsive. Great tonal balance and sharpness in the mids. I found this site while googling "kinkade guitar for sale"

I still haven't found a production 12 string which turns my crank. Many are good but few are stellar. My own is a one-off 12 fret, tight waisted, rosewood and spruce piece of glory which I bought when my income was significantly better and the builder's (Beneteau) prices significantly lower. Some custom builders don't like doing 12s because of the extra work involved (so I'm told) unless the sale is a sure thing, but it's maybe the best way to go.

The Kinkade site is nice, and the guitars look droolworthy. I can dream.

I had a friend and client who chose a Kinkade 12-string acoustic above all other 12s in the world for a very important showcase, when he was prepared to spend literally anything to improve his chances. He raved about it. He loved it. But it did not make him rich and some months later when he was totally boracic he offered it to me for GBP 300 - but I had not got the money at the time either.

Another of life's great missed opportunities.

They are another name I check whenever I do an ebay search, but they never come up for sale - and that must say something about them too.

I've an idea the Stranglers played Kinkade's, bass included. I don't know whether this endorsement sent prices into the upper atmosphere, or whether some other factors are at play.

I have a beautiful Kinkade D4 guitar made in Bristol (England)but I rarely see anyone with a Kinkade, does anyone out there have one. I believe most are sold on the other side of the pond
