There have been so many references to this in Sorcha's "Slang Thread" it is time to add it. An accordian classic, much better than Lady of Spain.

HOOP-DEE-DOO

POLKA 2/4
Words by Frank Loesser
Music by Milton DeLug
Copyright 1950 Frank Music Corp.

(Eb) Hoop - dee-doo, Hoop-dee-doo
(Eb) I hear a polka and my Hoop-dee-doo, Hoop-dee-dee, this kind of music is like Hoop-dee-doo, Hoop-dee-doo,
It's got me (Eb7) higher than a (Ab)kite.
Hand me down my soup and fish,
(Eb)I am gonna get my (C9) wish (Fm7) Hoop (Fdim)-dee (Ab)doo (A) -in (Bb7) it to (E) night.

When there's a (Ab)trom (Fm)-bone (Cm) play (Ab)in rah-ta dah-dah-dah,
(Bdim) I get a thrill. I always (Eb7) will.
When there's a (Bbm7)con (Eb7)cer - (Bbm7)tin (Eb7) a (Bbm7) stretch in (Eb7) out a mile
I always (Bb7) smile (Eb7) ' cause that's my (Ab6) style
When there's a (Ab) fiddle (Fm) in the (Cm) middle (Ab) and he plays the tune so sweet.
(Ab7) Plays the tune so sweet that I could (Db6) die
(Db) Lead me to the floor, and (Ab) hear me yell for (F7) more
'cause I'm a (Bb7) hoop -dee- (Eb9) doo - (Ebdim) - in (Eb7) kind of (Ab)guy.

I'm in clover I'm in bloom,
When I'm dancin' give me room
Hoop - dee- doo- in it with all of my might
Rain may fall and snow may come,
Noth-in's gonna stop me from
Hoop - dee- doo - in it to night.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Title (not the lyrics) suggestive of the old minstrel song, "Hoop De Dooden Do," thread 77870: Hoop De Dooden Do

Frank Loesser, no less! Never knew the words of this beyond the first two lines, but always 'aware' of it, so to speak.

Yeah, good old Frank, he died in 1969 of lung cancer (ahhhh-Chesterfields the pause that refreshes)

He has been feeding worms for the past 36 years - but his film credits (and extensive they are for a deadman) are as recent as ELF in 2003.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle
