Subject: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: wysiwyg Date: 14 Jul 05 - 09:03 PM We missed hosting a Spring MudGather... I figured that recovering from shingles doesn't quite make for the best hostessing. :~) But HERE, I was inspired to offer a Gathering for late August. FRIDAY AUGUST 26 - SUNDAY AUGUST 28, 2005, to be precise. Details? I've collected the details from the threads on our previous Gatherings, HERE. There is a discussion area there, too; you might want to bookmark that site so there will be a place to finalize plans, if/when Mudcat's down. As usual, I am VERY interested in RSVP's. (RSVP's result in directions!) Hope you can come! ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: ejsant Date: 20 Jul 05 - 11:44 AM Susan suggested that I post this here as well. Thank you Susan. Greetings All, Well it is that time of the year and my wife and I are again hosting an evening of traditional Irish music on Saturday, July 30th at our community in the mountains in Pennsylvania. As we did last year we will host a barbeque at 5 PM in the afternoon followed by a session in the evening at 7 PM. Our community is located just north east of Wilkes-Barre. We've once again extended an invitation to the public to join us at the session. We've asked the public to bring with them a local food market gift card in whatever denomination they feel comfortable with as a donation. We do not expect the participating musicians to contribute anything other than their talent and passion. We will then distribute the gift cards donated to area families that are struggling through difficult economic times. This year's event will be announced on the local public radio station, WVIA FM, so we are very excited about the prospects for an even greater turnout than last year. I have extended an invitation to the local Irish musicians through Leo Schott, a fine piper from the area. Leo joined us last year and the hopes are that he can do the same this year. If you would like to join us please call (201) 424-6141 or email me at ed@ejsantiques.com and indicate how many will be coming. We need to know about how many musicians are coming so that we know how much food to lay in for the barbeque. Please let us know as soon as possible. We both truly hope you can join us in this endeavor to spread Peace, Love, and Compassion through the music we all so dearly love. Peace, Ed |

Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: RangerSteve Date: 25 Jul 05 - 09:56 AM It sounds tempting. A lot depends on how things go at work. I'll know around the middle of Aug. if I can make it. Steve PS - I drove Rt 6 across PA last summer. I'm jealous of anyone who lives out your way. |
Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: wysiwyg Date: 25 Jul 05 - 10:00 AM Steve, Hey, if you come, you can ride the Deere! :~) If you pass this way any other time, please give us a shout. Hope to see you in August-- ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: ejsant Date: 26 Jul 05 - 07:50 AM It truly is a beautiful area isn't it Steve? My bride and I have taken long weekend travels along Rt. 6 shopping for antiques and are always moved by the mountains, the people, the little towns and the architecture, the farms, and the wholesomeness of this area of Pennsylvania. Living just outside the Holland Tunnel in Hudson County, NJ we need such respites to remind us that there is great beauty in the world and more peaceful ways to live. There is a magic in these mountains the likes of which I have only experienced in one other mountainous area, the Black Mountain region of Western North Carolina. I couldn't explain it other than it settles my soul the likes of which I don't experience too often. Thus far in my life Ireland is the only other place I have been to that does the same. I hope you can attend and that I get to meet you. Peace, Ed |

Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: wysiwyg Date: 15 Aug 05 - 12:52 PM Well, I do want people to come ahead, but beware, I gave up on the cleaning. The days when I could have done much were just too hot and sticky to give a damn. Now, Hardi has suddenly discovered we might be able to get away for some much-needed vacation-time, and we'll be attempting to resuscitate the old, moldy pop-up camper. So I am scrambling with patching the canvas and screening, getting a hirch installed, packing, arranging pet care, getting as much as I can into the parish website, and still finding time for the dear friend whose stroke has kept me pretty busy. We'll leave a day or two after you-all do! Really nice thing is, we come back to Catters, too. Shortly after getting home it will be the pre-Getatway Gathering followed by the post-Getaway Duck migration. Before that can happen, we have the annual Antique Show and Bishop's visitation-- if I can keep 'em straight in my mind, that is. In other words, what have I done?!?!? Golly, if you come for this August thing, can you help us set up for the Getaway gatherings? ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: wysiwyg Date: 19 Aug 05 - 09:54 AM Old fashioned wagon connector, made of birch. We sold that one, tho, and now have a Tioga County Airstream, courtesy of Duct Tape. Good old duct tape! Two beds left for this gathering. I've scaled way back on prep, limiting it to the area I know will be least allergenic-- back door, back porch, playroom and attic dorm, kitchen & bathroom. Cat and vacay-prep mess will be locked away in the main house and we'll just stay out of that section. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: MMario Date: 19 Aug 05 - 10:02 AM Looks at the moment that I will be missing on Friday night...sorry. We thought nephew would be on gramma-watch; but his sister wants him in Philly at her shower - so he will not be available. |
Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: wysiwyg Date: 19 Aug 05 - 01:31 PM But... you are still coming and we should look for you Saturday? Sounds like a series of visits with individuals or pairs. OK by me, but starting to sound like you may miss one another. Should we think about rescheduling, or go ahead as it now stands? ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: RangerSteve Date: 19 Aug 05 - 09:48 PM Sorry, but due to a shortage of park rangers, I have to work that weekend. |
Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: ejsant Date: 20 Aug 05 - 07:34 AM Greetings Susan, Rescheduling would be fine with me. The last weekend in September is out for me as I am accompanying a dear friend in a fiddle competition that Sunday and we will be there from Saturday morning on. We usually stop traveling up that way around the middle of October as our community is pretty much deserted by then. But we could make the trip from here. Let me know. Peace, Ed |
Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: wysiwyg Date: 20 Aug 05 - 11:29 AM I think all things considered, a reschedule makes the most sense. When we started all this, Hardi had not been able to identify our vacation dates for the year-- he has to find someone to cover the church services, and we are so far from any retired clergy that now that our dearest colleague has had a stroke, "supply" clergy are really, really hard to find. By the time he was able to find someone at all, there were only two Sundays available-- and we will be pulling out Sunday afternoon of the weekend I had hoped to see you all. I'm good and I'm prepping like mad, but to be honest, I'd be packing the camper when I'd rather be visiting with Mudcatters. So although it would be fine if you all came-- the dorm is self-service and was left ready by the last occupants except for a round of pillowcases-- I wouldn't really get to spend much time with you all. Ed, you might also enjoy being here during our parish's Oct. 1 AAntique Show ntique Show, if you'd like to come then in addition to or instead of during the pre/postGetaway dates. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: ejsant Date: 22 Aug 05 - 07:46 AM Greetings Susan, I agree, it seems that this weekend coming is a good deal less than convenient to gather. The Antique show sounds wonderful. I'll speak to my bride and see what our calendar is like. Twenty years or so ago I would travel Rt. 6 from Milford to well past Wellsboro buying. I could have filled my twenty-seven foot truck two or more times a week if I wanted to travel that route that often. Of course that would have meant that I neglected another productive route. In any event, when is the pre/post Getaway? Peace, Ed |
Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: wysiwyg Date: 22 Aug 05 - 09:50 AM The FSGW Getaway is Friday, October 14 to Monday, October 17, 2005. There will be Catters stopping a night or two on the way to it (probably) and on the way north from it (for sure). Here are two threads to keep an eye on for ongoing coordination: DUCKS and GETAWAY. And yes, do keep the Antique Show in mind. Love to see you both! ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Dog Days MudGather, N Cent. PA, August From: SingsIrish Songs Date: 25 Aug 05 - 07:10 AM I can't make it to Dog Days since I've got previously planned events going on--but I hope everyone has loads of fun! Mary |
