Just thought others might like to see this. This website is for a great hotel on the Oregon coast. One of the camera links is on the Newport Bay and the other is at the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. I look at it almost every day. . . and leave the website up in the background so I can listen to the ocean.

Bill, great link for Cannon. It certainly is a stunningly beautiful place, too. One of my favorite things to do - when I can get the time is to go from Portland up to Astoria and out to the coast right around Seaside and meander south - stopping at every wide spot and beach access point. . .

That's good (no pun intended) that Mo's has more outlets. It(He?) started in the Taft area of Lincoln City and later opened a second one in Newport. I didn't know there were any farther south.

Gross story: After I quit smoking, for awhile my sense of smell became abnormally acute. EVERYTHNG smelled way too strong. The smells of scented candles, some foods, coffee, people all nauseated me.

During that time my sister and brother in law visited me at Lincoln City and we went to MO's. As we left the parking lot to go inside, on the pier there were crabbers baiting crab pots with chicken heads (I'm not kidding) and the odor wafted over to me.

I retched and retched all the way into the restaurant.

how was the beach trip? I hope you now are able to enjoy the overwhelming scent of fresh caught crab and fish at the docks!! Did you have lost of time to walk on the beach and watch the tides change?

Just a bit of trivia-Mo was a lady who opened her first restaurant, with a partner I believe, on the bay front in Newport. She later bought out the partner. That restaurant is the one on the inland side of the street with the overhead garage door that's open on nice days. Her second was the expansion into Mo's Annex, across the street overlooking Newport Bay. The primary difference between the two, besides the view, is that the annex doesn't have a deep frier, so if you want fish and chips you need to go to the original. If you're just in the mood for a bowl of fresh chowder, homemade bread and blueberry cobbler you can go to the annex. . .
Sigh. . . now I've made myself hungry AND homesick!

I lived at Lincoln City for a number of years a couple of times , Poohbear. I love the ocean there. I rented an A-frame at Gleneden Beach at one point and the rest of the time I lived in the Taft and the Cutler City districts of Lincoln City. (Lincoln City is an amalgamation of five or six different linear communities.) I thought about living at Pacific City- a working-fishing village up the road a bit and somewhat off the touristy path, but I never got around to it.

I think I was at the Newport Mo's only once but Mo's in Lincoln City was a popular spot in my crowd.

I love Oregon's coast. Not as blue and smooth and sunny as the coast in California, it is wild and stormy with tall cliffs and logs flung higgledy piggledy with an occasional sunny, secluded sandy beach.

In Juneau Alaska, we have a third kind of coast. No wave action, because of the islands that break it up. The only time we get whitecaps on the water is when the winds are strong and clear and swoop down from the mountains.

Hi FB! I've no idea if Twin Peaks was filmed in Oregon. . . never watched it. I do know that there's a house in Astoria that's been used a bunch for movies (Short Circuit comes to mind) and that 'Animal House' was filmed on campus at U of O.(There's something you DON'T point out to your parents when convincing them it's the perfect school!). I also think that 'Ametyville Horror' was filmed somewhere in the Willamette Valley, but I'm not certain. Where does your nephew live? The central Oregon coast is the best part of the state, IMHO, but there are some other beautiful areas.

Can I ask what you did for work when you lived in/near Lincoln City? I've been dreaming about moving to the coast - anywhere between Waldport and Netarts will do - but there seems to be limited opportunities to make a living unless one takes on the risk of a tourist dependant business. I think my dream job would be either with Rogue Brewery (love the Shakespeare Stout!) or with the Central Oregon Coast Vistor and Convention Bureau. I'm not a sales person in the traditional sense, but I'd love to spend my time showing people how wonderful the coast is - and how much history, art, cultural events etc. there are in that part of my home state. I already have my dream house built in my mind. Now all I need is the perfect piece of land, and the money to buy it! LOL
How long have you been living in Juneau? I don't know if I could take the long hours of winter. Is it really cloudy and rainy up there, like Seattle or Portland, or is it just cold and only overcast when it's snowing?

juneauphotos is a great site for your computer wallpaper too, Poohbear. I change mine frequently- each one prettier than the one before. Pat Costello is a local "boy"- not really a boy anymore.

I worked at Salishan the first time I lived at Lincoln City. (A fancy - parodoxically rustic - resort) Later I worked at a retirement home in Taft.

The older I get the more firmly I believe that we need to create our own jobs. Each one may be risky, but I think the idea is that if one fails, one starts another one. You may not- or may - end up with a bulging stock portfolio but you will have lived.

It just occurred to me that the REAL need is for people to help explore other people's dreams.

By the way, Poohbear, Art Thieme and his wife used to have a bookstore in Depoe Bay, a great place to browse.

I've been in Juneau a bit more than 17 years, and love it. HOT to us is anything above 75 degrees. COLD is any temperature with a strong, persistent wind attached. 67 degrees to my mind is darn near perfect.

In the wintertime, even though the days are short (in southeast Alaska, the shortest is 6 hours and 18 minutes), when there is snow on the ground it is lovely. And the northern lights- well...
