Not bad, though I wonder why Soviet era songs are more acceptable than those of the Nazi era?

With a couple of exceptions they don't seem to be political songs. Lots of love songs, etc. I think it's really more like a Top 100 Songs of music that was popular during the Soviet years. Nicely done, too.

Most Soviet songs were either patriotic, labour songs, songs of solidarity, or silly soppy love songs in best tradition of the 1930s.

An interesting site to follow back to the source. I can't help wondering what music, Cleopatra, and Lief Ericksson have to do with Buddhism in Russia, though. Some nice stuff. Hopefully, all the links will work when they're finished building it.

I for one am grateful, and really it seems picky to be down on songs sung during the Soviet era, any more than songs sung during the Nazi era. The devil has all the great tunes, we knew that before...

I detest dictatorship as much as anyone (including our own tendencies in that direction), but songs should be judged on their own merits and there are some great ones in this list.

Bolshoe spasibo (big thanks), Le Scaramouche, for the terrific post -- I'm always on the lookout for good Russian songs.

Bob

Nevazhno, brat.
I've heard lots (and dirty limericks, Russians are masters at those), I have a book with some, will see what I can translate.
