Subject: Anyone going to Warwick? From: GUEST,muppitz at work Date: 19 Jul 05 - 09:25 AM I've never been before, what's the story? What shouldn't I miss etc... See you's at the weekend! muppitz x |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Les from Hull Date: 19 Jul 05 - 09:40 AM Maggie and I will be there as usual, stewarding and singing and playing in pubs round town. It depends what you are looking for. Most of the concerts, dances and other events are on the school site, as are a real ale bar, food concessions, music and craft stalls and children's events. Some of us 'fringe types' invest the pubs in town (Bowling Green, Roebuck, Zetland, etc) to annoy each other in song and tune. There's a good quality (mainly unaccompanied) singaround in a pub whose name escapes me. And there's a free festival bus every twenty minutes between the school site and the rest of town. But there's really no need to leave the main site unless it's for the dance displays or to meet up with lowlifes like MCFat or me. |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Noreen Date: 19 Jul 05 - 10:59 AM We have the use of many of Warwick School's facilities (in whose grounds the festival is held) so bring your swimming costume. Showers available at all times so folkies are more sweet-smelling at this festival than at some others. :0) I think Warwick is my favourite festival. As Les says there is so much going on on the main field there's no need to leave, but there's the castle very close by and the lovely shops (excellent pork butcher!) Lots of open space for kiddies to play and fly kites etc, as well as everything else organised. Several marquees on the site, can sit outside in the sunshine and listen and watch the world go by, fantastic ceilis in the evening (I'll be checking your wristbands at the door) and late-night sings after everything else has finished. And lots of friendly faces! Looking forward to this, as I expect you gathered :0) |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 19 Jul 05 - 11:02 AM i;m not going, its to far away. |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Rasener Date: 19 Jul 05 - 11:23 AM Its not too far away Sir John. Justa atoddle down the M42 and M40, once you have got past Nottingham. I wish I was going. |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Sue Wilcock Date: 19 Jul 05 - 11:38 AM We'll all be there, kids wouldn't let me miss it- especially Proff Panic and Bonzo and Doris. |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Menolly Date: 19 Jul 05 - 05:50 PM I'm coming - with the whole family! Son, daughter, grands, Oh and Ian Mac as well ! Something for everyone - daughter intends that every finger will have a ring by the time she leaves - not just 7 of them! |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: treewind Date: 19 Jul 05 - 05:58 PM We'll be around some of the time, though we're off to Nottingham Saturday night for a gig at the Robin Hood Club. Anyone know a place in Warwick fest for a good English tunes session? Anahata |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Herga Kitty Date: 19 Jul 05 - 06:00 PM I have a ticket for Saturday, but expect to be in Dave and Anni's free lunchtime singaround at the Crown and Castle (Les, was that the pub you couldn't remember the name of?). Hope to see some of you. Kitty |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: MC Fat Date: 20 Jul 05 - 09:11 AM I'm there as usual. Doing compering stuff but hope to have time to do a bit of low life singing with Les etc. By the way the Punchbowl is closed for refurbishment so no cheap Barnsley Bitter then. |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: CharleyR Date: 20 Jul 05 - 09:44 AM I'll be there with Feet First. I first went a couple of years ago and enjoyed it a lot so I'm looking forward to being there again this time. How's this for a random day though - I have my graduation ceremony on Friday morning then straight off to Warwick in the afternoon. At least I have the thought of going to a festival to get me through a fun morning of continuous clapping as hundreds of people I've never met parade across a stage and then having my photo taken with the proud parents whilst holding a plastic tube with a ribbon round it... *stops whinging now* Charley |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Geoff the Duck Date: 20 Jul 05 - 09:54 AM We will be there. Look out for the bills and webbed feet. Might have my piccolo banjo with me as I finally decided to try to tune it a full octave above standard 5-string tuning and the strings didn't snap, so I can play without transposing all the fingerings. If you see us say hello! Quack!! GtD. |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Les from Hull Date: 20 Jul 05 - 11:02 AM Yes Kitty, that's the one! Memorable events at pevious Warwick FFs have included the all-comers Ladies Toilet Harmony Singing session (for which I was very pleased to be voted an honourary woman!) and the Incredible Baloon Rapper. That's bad news about the Punchbowl, Jim. I was pleased that we had got to use that pub again. Perhaps someone who lives locally can give us an idea of folk-friendly pubs, as they seem to change a bit from year to year. |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Tig Date: 20 Jul 05 - 11:46 AM We aren't so sign in with Ms Lemon. |

Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Moses Date: 21 Jul 05 - 03:25 AM Tent's packed in the car already. Half-day at work tomorrow then straight up the M40. This festival is so good even my 21 year old daughter, who would rather stand out in the rain than listen to folk music, is coming and bringing her friend (and her swimming cossie). Great variety of music and dance. On-site catering superb (the jerk-chicken is a must for non-veterians), showers it seems are available at all times (no waiting til 9am) and it is a short walk or free bus-ride into town past beautifully tended municipal gardens. This is the ONE festival I wouldn't miss. See you there Christine |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Splott Man Date: 21 Jul 05 - 03:35 AM See you there. This is my first Warwick, hope I can find it. Pat Spoons is calling the Friday night Celtic Dance with Mabon. I'll be there Saturday (working Friday night!) with my punter's hat on. Splott Man |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Fliss Date: 21 Jul 05 - 06:49 AM Cant afford to go this year. Am going to the All Ireland Fleadh in Letterkenny at the end of August and havnt the cash for both. Do like Warwick Festival tho. I will miss all my friends and the sing around. Have a great time everyone. fliss xx |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Les from Hull Date: 21 Jul 05 - 07:42 AM Glad to see that Linda will be with us this year, and the radio will be there as well. Australia getting a bit of a thrashing at the moment! Last year's ten hour journey was a direct route but a sort of 'journius interruptus'. |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Mr Red Date: 21 Jul 05 - 07:46 AM The Fleece at Bretforton is on the way and has a folk SAR/session tonight. Mary, an old flame live in Badsey, so I will be going in stages. See some of you in the newly refurbed Fleece tonight then? Great pub, shame about the fire. Geof - you can still be surprised because expectations are never like the event. Just call me a solipsist....... |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: R. Padgett Date: 21 Jul 05 - 10:55 AM Well Muppitz will no doubt be on duty in t'Moor and Coast tent late night Last time I went I put up the tent on an open field. by the time I got back after taking a few beers I couldnt find the tent!! I went to t'Moor and Coast tent and was taken in hand by a young lady (no not like that!) who helped me find my tent Could well be there yet have you all seen Flossie yet!! Lots of friends down there not seen for a bit Ray |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Herga Kitty Date: 24 Jul 05 - 11:26 AM I had a really good time - good to see/ hear people, and sorry I didn't see everyone who's posted above that they would be at Warwick. Apologies, in case anyone went to the Crown & Castle looking for Dave and Anni, for not knowing that their singaround was moved to the Bowling Green this year, because the C&C management wanted to use their room as a restaurant. It was still an excellent singaround, though. I hope everyone dries out OK (from the rain that is....) Kitty |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Gillie Date: 24 Jul 05 - 03:48 PM |

Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Mr Red Date: 25 Jul 05 - 02:20 PM I never saw it. But No1 son kept saying you all would. Tell him I am still asking him about his girlfriend......... |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: R. Padgett Date: 25 Jul 05 - 05:13 PM anyone (me) who downloaded the prog from the Internet would have got lost I am still drying out from the beer, Kitty! Good to meet some of you 'ole Catters!!! |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Linda Kelly Date: 25 Jul 05 - 05:22 PM Safely home although completely exhausted and slumped over the computer at work on several occasions today. Thanks to Pistachio for her safe driving and company. Lovely to see catters and great singing as usual in the Arts Centre. Love the festival, except the car park duty in the pouring rain , but someone had to do it! Highlights were Crosscurrent, Black Umfolosi and Flossie - wish I could have seen more |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: Edain Date: 25 Jul 05 - 05:28 PM Am now back after a fantasic weekend. Shame about the 5 hours in traffic jam after traffic jam on the M6 but it can't really put a dampener on the event. All I need now is a new liver and a few days to just sleep |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: My guru always said Date: 25 Jul 05 - 05:38 PM Brill weekend! Lovely to see so many Catters again - next stop Sidders :-) |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: George Papavgeris Date: 26 Jul 05 - 12:51 AM What were the main concerts etc like? Who shone? |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Warwick? From: GUEST,muppitz at work Date: 26 Jul 05 - 03:42 AM Missed Flossie! Bugger! Rachel Unthank and co were great, Napper and Bliss were fantastic and I am now of the firm belief that Tom Napper is the Duracell Bunny, Friday and Saturday night (Or Saturday and Sunday morning depending how you look at it!) the man was unstoppable, once you start him playing he just doesn't stop! I had a great (first) Warwick festival, despite the weather, I hope to return next year! muppitz x |
