And she did a lovely job singing & playing it at this year's Old Songs Festival near Albany, NY at the end of June,rightly attributing it to our Art. Got a big round of applause for him, too!

Cindy's a lovely woman, as well as a very entertaining performer.

You are certainly correct. That was a fine guitar solo within that song by Ian and Sylvia I've always felt.

And, folks, I forgot (maybe) to mention -- the sad fact that Cindy Mangsen is the only person who ever recorded "That's The Ticket".

Wait, I'm wrong. Wanda Degan in Michigan put it on an LP too.

Odd you should mention that on the same day that John Herald's passing is discussed on another thread.

His guitar work on the original recording of that particular song was one of the things that caused a budding fingerpicker to grab a flatpick and never look back. I wonder if I might have become a great fingerpicker...I sure as %*&@ never became a great flatpicker, inspiration or not. Oh, well.

Cindy has always been a favorite singer of mine. I've got so many memories of listening to this lady sing at festivals and in smoke-filled bars and folk clubs that I don't know where to begin. OF ALL the people who recorded my little hairball of a song called "That's The Ticket", Cindy Mangsen's version with concertina is, simply, the very best rendition!!!!

As far as her SOLO ALBUMS are concerned, I think I like the one that contains the amazing song called "SELLING THE ISABEL" ----- about a widow selling her husband's boat after he has died. The whole CD----titled CINDY MANGSEN---SONGS OF EXPERIENCE (Redwing RWMCD 5403) is glorious, but this song just blows me away every time I hear it.

That said, my absolute FAVORITE of her solo CDs is the one made from the tapes for her first LP record album. Called LONG TIME TRAVELING, I believe it can be bought at Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen's web site. Everything on it is a gem----and Cindy sings just beautifully all the way through.---------------------
Songs are: When You Hear Them Cuckoos Hollerin', Farther Along, The Griesley Bride,
Little River, Outward Bound, Annaachie Gordon, Hard Times, West Virginia Mine Disaster (by Ky. Trad), Bonny Lass Of Anglesy, my own That's The Ticket, Long Time Traveling Here Below, and Ring Around The Moon.

Now, add to all this the fact that I wrote the original 1982 liner notes for this album (here included), and you simply cannot go wrong!

Of the CDs made by the Mangsen/Gillette husband and wife duo-team, my favoite is, only because it is the one that comes to mind first, THE LIGHT OF THE DAY from their own Compass Rose Music label. Cindy's own song, THE DARK OF THE MOON, hits me with the same intensity I feel from "Selling The Isabel". This is one wise woman who penned this song. She had to live quite a while to learn the things that allowed her to write it---and then she had both the wordcraft, and the musicianship to make this very real work of art.

I don't actually have any of Cindy solo; but "A sense of Place", with her husband Steve Gillette, and "Never Grow Old" and sequel "Never Grow Up", with Anne Hills, are wonderful.
