I'm crushed. It didn't even occur to me that Canada was a serious contender.

Canada's the BEST

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter won the award as Stupidest Man of the Year. She beat out Bush, U.S. Senator John Kerry, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and Players Association director Bob Goodenow, and former Ukrainian president Leonid Kuchma.

LOLOLOL

Cluin said: "I knew I'd miss Chretien."

Ah, the Gomery Inquiry of the Sponsorship Scandal was the main reason we won. Jean never really left... the master politician, or, perhaps, puppeteer, still calls the tunes... from the nineteenth hole.

I can't even articulate how much I miss Chretien.

I miss Howard the Duck too.

But I do not miss Margaret Thatcher.

I only have one thing to say: Diebold!!!!

This was more rigged than last Friday nivght's World Wrestling Federation Super Heavy Eight bout between "The Animal" and "Godzilla"....

I want a recount!!!

No!

I ***demand*** a recount!!!

Anyone check out the Bush folks lately??? Only one award??? This is absolutely ludicris and I'm sure that if Bush were to know that he's been beaten out by the Canadians as the the most screwed up, he's want a recount as well....

Well, maybe he wouldn'r since countin' was never one of his best subjects in school unless it had somethin' to do with a song about bottles of beer on a wall...

I'm a bit worried that he may use it as an excuse for "regime change" in Canada. Regime change is a euphemism for "invasion and occupation". Adolf was really into regime change in a big way for a while there...

I agree with the award going to Canada, but disagree that it should have been given for the Gomery Inquiry.

It should be given for having very brave men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line for their government and still do even when that government treats them like shit. Unsafe equipment, bad pay and little support from Ottawa. Lets call a spade a friggin' shovel. And this has gone on for years--decades to be exact.

Yeah. Remember what happened to Commonwealth troops in Word War I? They were sent by their generals in human wave attacks against entrenched German and Turkish machine guns, and they died like flies. RAF pilots were denied the use of parachutes (easily available to observation balloon personnel), because it was felt that it might encourage the pilots to "prematurely abandon valuable equipment" (burning airplanes). That decision was made by the top officers or by some bureaucrat in Whitehall. Some bean-counter.

The German pilots used parachutes from about the mid-point in the war. Being outnumbered, they could not afford the luxury of burning up too many pilots to supposedly save airplanes which were in fact, unsaveable.

You can build an airplane in a couple of days on a good production line. It takes 3 to 5 years to train a decent fighter pilot. And an airplane does not have a family.

How come there aren't any people whining about how unfair it is and how unrepresentative and why they only choose the big names like we do with all other awards?

But can we learn from history?

The perhaps apocryphal story is told about a planned German assault on Switzerland. The Germans decided they could do without the parachutes, and would just drop a regiment into the deep fluffy snowfields, without parachutes (from low-flying airplanes, of course).

The Swiss got wind of the attack and painted a bunch of rocks white.

Splat.

It has to be true, since "whitewash" has been a principal secret weapon of governements all over the world ever since....???

John
