7/26/1845: Melville Bay: Last sighting of the Erebus & the Terror, Sir John Franklin's expedition. (sailed 5/19/1945 qv):

It's a long time now since two ships of fame
Did bear my Franklin across the main,
With one hundred seamen so bold and stout,
To find a north-west passage out.

"Lady Franklin's Lament," G Greig, FSNE LXXXVI
(Lots of other versions too, if you're looking for them.)

Franklin died June 11, 1847 - most of the men were found in 1859 - the last two not found until 1984.
