Subject: happy? - July 27 From: Abby Sale Date: 27 Jul 05 - 08:08 AM Cecil Sharp arrived in Madison County, North Carolina, on Thursday, 27th July, 1916, reaching White Rock late in the afternoon. Sharp and his assistant, Maud Karpeles, were driven north from the town of Asheville by John Campbell, the husband of Olive Dame Campbell (ie, "The Songcatcher") who had first directed Sharp's attention to the Appalachian singers. [per folklorist, Mike Yates - "A Nest of Singing Birds"] They still sing ballads wonderfully in Madison County and we most strongly recommend the Madison County Project. (See the Quicktime or RealPlayer version at "May 10, 2005.") Fast line recommended. Copyright © 2005, Abby Sale - all rights reserved What are Happy's all about? See Clicky |
