Subject: RE: Lyr Req: caledonia caledonia my heart in my hand From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 28 Jul 05 - 07:56 PM That would be 'and', not 'in'. It's usually called Scotland Again; a modern song of the sentimental kind favoured by the "tartan and shortbread" crowd. Lyric from a recording by Valerie Dunbar (whose material is aimed squarely at the tourist trade) can be seen at http://www.scottravel.org/charlotte/home22.htm The song is mentioned in a lot of commercial listings online, but those I've seen credit only the recording artists, not the writer(s). |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: caledonia caledonia my heart in my hand From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Aug 05 - 12:22 AM According to Gaberlunzie's website, SCOTLAND AGAIN was "written by H. Barry to a tune by A. Mason (of Fiddlers Rally fame) [and was] first released as a single by Gaberlunzie and now being recorded by many of Scotland's top artists, 'an anthem for Scotland'." I'm guessing H. Barry is Harry Barry who is mentioned elsewhere as drummer and record producer for Gaberlunzie. I can't find an A. Mason associated with Fiddler's Rally, but there are many references to conductor John Mason. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Scotland Again (Caledonia, Caledonia...) From: GUEST,jamie Mason Date: 21 Aug 17 - 09:34 AM Indeed. My fater wrote the tune. It was originally a tune called The Wild Rose of the Mountain, and then words were added in collaboration with Harry Barry and became the song - Scotland Again. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Scotland Again (Caledonia, Caledonia...) From: Gallus Moll Date: 21 Aug 17 - 01:55 PM The Wild Rose of the Mountain is a gorgeous fiddle tune, lovely harmonies. Haven't heard the song version - perhaps like Ashokan Farewell it would be better without words? |
Subject: Lyr Add: SCOTLAND AGAIN (Gaberlunzie) From: Jim Dixon Date: 25 Aug 17 - 01:51 PM SCOTLAND AGAIN As recorded by Gaberlunzie on "Scotland Again" (2002) I dream, I dream of Scotland again From the plain to the western shore, And in my dream are women and men. They will stand for their homeland once more. CHORUS: Caledonia, Caledonia, my heart and my hand Are reaching in peace to you, Caledonia, Caledonia, my dearest green land, The place where my dreams come true. When the wild rose is blooming on mountain and shore. Then I'm dreaming of Scotland once more. I sing, I sing of Scotland again, Where the hopes of my heart can fly, And in my song of river and glen, There is freedom of spirit for you and I. CHORUS |
