Subject: church bell. message 3 From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 31 Jul 05 - 03:31 PM This is a report for everyone who helped out with advice on the broken clapper. The two-man team scaled the tower on Friday evening and re-installed the mended clapper. They also lubricated everything in sight that could possibly be lubricated. At 7:29, my phone rang, and the DH was on the line. He said they would ring the bell in 30 seconds. This gave me time to shoot out the door and down to the street (so as to get away from humming air conditioners.) I heard the bell from one block away. It seemed to sound much the same as ever. I was so hoping that it would have an incredible new sound that would leave the Lutherans gnashing their teeth in envy. Oh, well. It is back on the job and in much better condition than before. Thanks to everyone who helped with the metallurgy advice. ---- PS We are told that the metalworkers who fixed the shaft can take the hardest metal known to man, drill a hole in it the size of a human hair, tap it, and have the result be perfectly cylindical and straight. Apparently they are Supermen. |
