I remember seeing Billy Muggins (or at least that's who my Dad said it was) dancing for coppers outside the Herberts Park Tavern in about 1968(?) As the men walked out of the pub, they would throw him their change.

He looked at me, winked, and said, "The' think I'm saft!"

Harry

Billy's Mom - Mrs Walters - lived opposite the house in Eldon Street Darlaston where my wife, Margaret Hubble, was raised. She often tells of how, as children, they would take Mrs Walters a small gift of perhaps half a pound of butter or a bottle of stout. Eldon Street was demolished in the mid 1960s.

Haveyou tried dropping a letter to the @black Country Bugle'? Their letters pages are always full of remembrances of Black Country characters.

Yes - no relation, it predates Billy's Time I would think.

"I'm Billy Muggins, a bit of a juggins"

I was looking for info on the man. I have done a bit of search.

OK I knew this man - as well as any 5 year-old who only saw him pushing his cart (back to front) could. But are there any other memories out there?

My cousins wife has info, and my local (Wed) librarian lived in the area and has relatives extant who would remember him but all stories wanted. The web references are singular and unhelpful, the pamphlet will be read when it arrives. But I need more data. OK it is a longshot. The song (motivation for this) is written anyway but I want to fill-out the background.
