Right third time lucky?
We are hoping to fing some live music/folk clubs to attend in the next two weeks in or around the North yorks moors.
We will be camping in and around Helmsley which has no folk music at all going on.
Does anyone know of somewhere we can go to get a musical fix in this general local?
Will be ok to travel withi 20 miles but have struggled to get a sniff of anything going on around there.

Try some or all of the following:

The nearest are probably ourselves at Flaxton nr Sheriff Hutton or the Three Tuns at Thirsk.

Wednesday: 8.30 onwards Thompsons Arms, nr Flaxton (just before the railway crossing coming from Sheriff Hutton)
Thursday: 9.00 onwards Three Tuns Hotel, Thirsk (in market square) or Black Swan in York

Next thursday, friday and saturday there is Saltburn festival which is further than your 20 mile limit but stacks of stuff on - there is a thread here with lots of details

Globe at Guisborough have music but I'm unsure of details
Stokesley have a folk club but I again am not sure when

There is a prtty full list at York university but ignore the entries for Highwayman Sheriff Hutton and Northallerton becase we have both moved.

Two mentioned above are singaround format - join in if you want or sit and drink :) and both have a range of music from traditional unaccompanied to fiddle tunes to more modern singer/songwriter stuff.

Helmsley has got a fiddle tune( and hymn) named after it though, even if it's short on sessions.

Monday   The Bunkhouse - Country and Western but a strong folk       element involved. A lot of fun

Wednesday Usually Jazz

Thursday A once a month Blues/American night

Friday A thriving folk club

Saturday Free and Easy music at which most anything goes

Sunday A music quiz (more for the specialist or those who's brain includes a lot of music trivia)

we went to helmsley and made our own music in one of the pubs in the square. we found the locals welcoming(ish) and had a fab time.
