Singer Marc Cohn, known for the 1991 smash hit "Walking in Memphis," was shot in the head Sunday during an attempted carjacking in Denver but survived.

It could have been worse ... let's hope a speedy successful recovery.

Grammy-winning singer Marc Cohn has survived being shot in the head during an attempted carjacking as he left a concert in Denver, Colorado. The musician - whose biggest hit was Walking in Memphis in 1991 - was struck in the temple by the bullet but it did not penetrate his skull.

"Frankly, I can't tell you how he survived," Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said.

Police said a man tried to commandeer Cohn's tour van as it left a parking garage after the show on Monday.   The attacker was allegedly fleeing police after trying to pay a hotel bill with a stolen credit card.   Cohn's driver and tour manager Thomas Dube, seeing the man had a gun, sped up and swerved to escape - but the man fired a shot into the van's windscreen.   It grazed Mr Dube and hit Cohn. Both were treated and later released from hospital after the incident. Mr Jackson said the bullet appeared to have been slowed by hitting the windshield and Mr Dube first.

I didn't know that he had married Elizabeth Vargas from 20/20 - a news show in the USA. I've enjoyed his music as well.

Good news that he is not in any serious trouble - unlike the fool who shot him.
For some reason, it reminds me of the strange tale of the British boxing promoter, Frank Warren, who was one night shot as he left a club.
He was rushed to hospital, where a bullet was immediately removed from his head. While probing for it, the surgeons discovered a brain tumor, which would probably otherwise have gone undiagnosed. The tumor was removed and over fifteen years later, Frank Warren is alive and well.
That has to rank as the most unsuccessful murder attempt of all time. Not only did gunman fail to kill, he actually inadvertantly saved his target's life!

I'm a big fan of Marc Cohn's. The entire CD that has Walkin in Memphis on it is great. I'm glad he's OK.

The article begs the question--how does someone get so messed up that he desperately shoots and assaults with such abandon, and how does one defend oneself in such an instance? Cohn is very fortunate to survive such a random act of violence.

SRS - One thing I try to be aware of is to stop my car so that I can see the bottom of the tires of the car in front of me. Police have told me that leaves enough room so that you can pull your car around the car in front of you if the situation gets uncomfortable - or even if the car ahead of you is stalled.

The answer to SRS's question is, we are all born 'messed up'. It's just that most of us grow up to learn that we can't just take everything, hit people, kill people etc., but some people never do. It may or may not be their fault but it's too bad, they haver to be punished until they learn too.
